This is an administration fee that is charged to upgrade your device. It is intended to cover some of the costs in making the system changes. I do not like paying fees any more than you do. It is just one of those things in life that irritates all of us that we live with.

I have included a link to all of Bell’s current one time fees.

https://support.bell.ca/billing-and-accounts/policies/what-are-bells-current-one-time-fees

Thank you for reaching out to the Bell Community Forum.

Take care.

Why did I get charged a connection fee (upgrade processing fee) when I purchased a new iPhone to replace my old iPhone, all well using Bell? I've been a Bell customer for more than 40 years.

BELL should rescind ALL it's "administration fees" and "upgrade fees" for it's customers. They would be making a unique statement in Canadian telecommunications, since every one of their competitors charge these thinly veiled fees for ... not really sure, pressing a button? entering a bit of data? $60? Really?

Until something changes at Bell, I'll be getting my next phone, and 2 year commitment, on-line from somewhere else.

BELL, why not take the high road? Your reward will be bigger than you think, not only in customer loyalty, but also in referrals.

Good Day & thank you for posting & sharing your comments.

I do not like paying fees any more than you do. It is just one of those things in life that irritates all of us that we need to live with.

We would all prefer to see a a no fees system. Not sure what we would do with them or what to replace them with. Fees could be replaced with some form of hidden tax. Fees could be spread across all services for all companies. Maybe we should create a new luxury tax or mandate a change in law.

As Canadians we are all looking for something better. If we do not have to pay for it, then that is just the icing on the cake. Little do we realize how fortunate we are to have what we have.

Once again, no one likes added costs & fees for services rendered. Fees are here to stay. They may change, but they are not going to go away.

My apologies for being whimsical & digressing from your point of view & personal perspective.

Thank you & please take care.

I think you're missing the point; either un or intentionally. The fees being charged have no correlation to the "service" they are being charge for, they can vary from service provider to service provider, and they can be changed on a whim. Why was $60 chosen for an "upgrade" fee? More importantly, why was it "needed" in the first place? Was the company losing tons of revenue over upgrades? I think not, since the plan you had before won't ever work with your new phone, so you must always give up your old plan and commit to a new, and more expensive, plan before you can even connect your new phone. So, Mister not-a-Bell-employee-honestly-really, does Bell provide ANY explanations for these ad hoc invented fees anywhere? Is anything stopping them from increasing the fees to whatever they like? Let me save you some research time; the answers are NO and NO. I will put up with these inane fees only until I find a better option, like perhaps having a phone without a gouging "service provider" like the ones we have in Canada now.

I've been with them for over 20 years, and they offer better deals to new customers than to loyal customers like us. I don't understand why, since customer retention is much cheaper than acquisition. I don't want to switch because Bell has much better infrastructure, but at this rate I might just have to because this is ridiculous.
