My credit score dropped after signing up for a cellphone

Hello, I just switched over to my own bell phone account after using my dads account for years. I already had my own account for internet.

They had to do a credit check, but the thing is my credit score dropped 40 points. There was an issue where they tried creating me an account 4 times but it kept having an error, and I kept telling them I refuse to have another credit check. However, I am feeling they did multiple credit checks for my credit score to drop this hard.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Or know who I can reach out to at bell to get an answer?

If a credit check was requested, this would have the least of any impact on your credit score. Bell does not control your credit score.

The main factors involved in calculating a credit score are:

Your payment history
Your used credit vs. your available credit
The length of your credit history
Public records
Number of inquiries into your credit file is a minor factor.

There are two main credit bureaus in Canada:

Equifax
TransUnion

I can only suggest that you contact them if you do not agree with the score that you have been given.

Same here credit score went down, my first payment wasn't recorded it shows I paid 0.00 when I paid 2 weeks before due date I'm super sad about this.

Bell does not control your credit score. Your score is controlled by you & only you. If a credit check was requested, this would have the least of any impact on your credit score.

The main factors involved in calculating a credit score are:

Your payment history
Your used credit vs. your available credit
The length of your credit history
Public records
Number of inquiries into your credit file is a minor factor.

Hey guys,

I had Bell Mobility service, and it was being reported monthly to credit bureaus like TransUnion and Equifax. However, I've since disconnected my mobility service and now only have Bell home internet service.

I'm wondering if the home internet service will also be reported to the credit bureaus. From what I understand, not every company reports non-mobility services, but I've heard that Rogers does.

Has anyone here had a similar experience with Bell? Is your home internet service being reported to the credit bureaus, or is it just the mobility service that gets reported?

As a user to user forum we have no access or information on account and billing matters. However, the relationship with Bell and credit bureaus is covered here in this thread.

It is reasonable to assume that any company may report your payment history to credit bureaus, no matter what service you purchase.

Bell will request a credit check if there appears to be a credit or payment issue. It has little to do with one service or the other.

Your score is controlled by you & only you. If you are paying your bills in full & on time, then there is no real reason to for you to worry about your credit score.

I can assure you a bell credit check will cost you 40 points as I have just lost 40 myself. The only inquiry I have on my credit report is bell.

40 points is not minor bell is my only inquiry so that green check should be removed or at least remove the point

In your eyes, that may be how you see it. In the eyes of the credit bureaus, financial institutions & lenders; they may have a somewhat different opinion.

Credit inquiries, also known as credit checks, count toward your credit score. It’s normal and expected that you'll apply for credit from time to time. When lenders and others ask a credit bureau for your credit report, they record it as an inquiry.

If there are too many credit checks on your credit report, lenders may think that you’re:

urgently seeking credit
trying to live beyond your means

To control the number of credit checks on your report:

limit the number of times you apply for credit
get your quotes from different lenders within a 2-week period when shopping around for a car loan or a mortgage. Credit bureaus will combine and treat your inquiries as a single inquiry for your credit score
apply for credit only when you really need it

I trust you have requested & received your recent credit bureau report. If not, then you should request a copy of it from the credit bureaus.

Once received, you should review it in its entirety & check for any mistakes. You have the right to dispute any information on your credit report that you believe is wrong. Credit bureaus must correct errors for free.

If you’re not satisfied with the results of the credit bureaus’ investigation, ask to speak with someone at a higher level. Either at the credit bureaus or at your financial institution.

The credit report is a report they made. It is there opinion. You may have the information on the subject but you clearly do not fully understand it.

Same story pretty much, my credit score drop too.

I'm headed back into bell and return my device and go to what this place, when I asked, is not part of bell????

Then credit score check and I had no idea until it was to late held already did a couple checks..score drop too, it confused me up until now, after reading others have had the same issue....

The price of the apartment I rented includes the internet. I've only subscribed to bell and my invoice amount is always 0 dollars. But you are updating my credit score on August 4th. I am very angry with you for doing this and causing my credit score to drop by 26 points. Please fix this mistake. My relationship with you is only because the house I rented was free of charge.

As this is a user to user forum, we have no access to any account and billing information you may have. I encourage you to contact the credit rating agencies directly if you have concerns about your credit score. Only you can dispute their actions with them.
