Thank you for your comment. We have provided all the information available to Community All-Stars (who are not employees of Bell) that we are aware of. We have suggested you speak to Bell directly, as this forum can not respond to Account and Billing questions. Inaccuracies in credit bureau reports are entirely between the credit bureau and the consumer to rectify. They can't be addressed in this peer to peer forum. There is nothing more I can add, other than to restate what I know as a volunteer.

I have the same issue as you @Raane and credit services was unable to help. I have been dealing with this for 3 months and been transferred to a few departments over the course it (Sales, Customer Services, Credit Services and CAS) and apparently no one knows how to do it or what I am talking about. On my last call with CAS, the agent hung up on me. At one point, I was told it was out of scope and its not something that Bell does. They kept referring back to Equifax to ask them. Equifax reply was every payment history is sent to them with a 10digit file number, which has to be provided by the institution.

I finally got an answer from Bell. Internet service is a residential service and so they do not report on it after the initial credit check before you are provided with the product (My guess is just like Utilities and TV/Cable). I asked if it was policy or it was written somewhere, they said no. My conclusion, if you have a cell phone (or a bundle package) it is done just separated and filed with the Credit Bureau but if you have internet only, they do not. I checked with friends who have other home internet services account and it is not reported either. It seems to be an industry standard.

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum.

Your score is controlled by you & only you. If you are paying your bills in full & on time, then there would be no real reason to for you to worry about your credit score.

The main factors involved in calculating a credit score are:

Your payment history

Your used credit vs. your available credit

The length of your credit history

Public records

Number of inquiries into your credit file is a minor factor.

There are two main credit bureaus in Canada:

Equifax

TransUnion

The following link is from the Government of Canada web site.

Credit report and score basics - Canada.ca

If you have a need to get in touch with Bell credit services check out this How to make an overdue payment section. Late payment fees and overdue payments

Thanks for the information. I have seen this post in a few of the other forum sections too. This is not a credit score issue but a CREDIT REPORTING issue. Bell Internet does not show up on Equifax and like I stated Bell does not report it.

I've searched high and low on the internet and I haven't been able to find out if bell sends reports to the credit bureau regarding paid bills so you can build credit. I only found one article but it just says that your credit score is your own responsibility. Which is a given of course. I just want to know if paying bell bills contributes to my credit score or not.

How are you paying your bill? Credit card? Financial institution?

Bell reserves the right to report your Bell credit history to credit bureaus, lenders, collections agencies and other Bell Company businesses. When initiating your home phone service or cell phone plan, they’re also allowed to retrieve your credit details from those same parties. This makes it easier for Bell to collect your payments.

Bell will request a credit check if there appears to be a credit or payment issue. There is no need for Bell to report bill payments if you are paying your bills in full & on time.

If you are looking to build up your payment history, start byy paying your phone bill through your credit card. Credit card companies typically report to one or both credit bureaus. If you are paying your bill via your financial institution, non payment for insufficient funds or a line of credit line that leads to financial trouble will be reported & may impact your credit rating.

The main factors involved in calculating a credit score are:

Your payment history

Your used credit vs. your available credit

The length of your credit history

Public records

Number of inquiries into your credit file is a minor factor.

There are two main credit bureaus in Canada:

Equifax

TransUnion

The following link is from the Government of Canada web site.

Credit report and score basics - Canada.ca

Take care.

Bell was reporting to the credit bureaus for my account for 4 years. As soon as I added internet services they stopped. Thus lowering my credit score by nearly 50 points as my longest standing credit account no longer shows an amount due or paid since July of 2024. Been trying to deal with this for a couple of months now and I cannot beleive this is Bells policy. They are putting peoples credit at risk with this. It took me 7 years to get my score to where it is and now it has suffered a nearly 50 point loss! Absolutely unnacceptable. As you mentioned, this is not written anywhere or brought to the customers attention prior to starting residential services.

I pay my bills on time. My responsibility is being met. Like I said, I’ve been dealing with this for months. Neither Bell or the credit bureaus want to take accountability for this. Credit bureaus say it’s Bells problem, Bell says it’s the credit bureaus problem. Proper reporting and maintaining my on time payments and account status is NOT my responsibility, that falls on Bell.

You obviously don’t understand what I am saying or are not well versed in how credit works. I said Bell was reporting my due amounts and paid amounts for 4 years. I’ve never paid late always on time and this helped me build my credit score for over 4 years. The reason my credit score is suffering is because they stopped reporting. Bell has marked my credit account with them as “transferred or closed”. As they have for hundreds of other customers who are taking a credit hit because of this. If you were knowledgeable about credit and credit history in the slightest you would know what happens when a long standing credit account is marked “transferred or closed”.
Have a great day.

The problem is the WAY they are reporting it. The supervisor I spoke with at TransUnion says Bells reporting is very irregular, hence TransUnion is fielding many many calls about this. There is a legitimate issue here that isn't being acknowledged. In my case, my credit info isn't being properly reported. As of Oct 2 Bell says I have a 12 year old account but have only made one payment on it. That's is very far from accurate, it's not the credit bureau or my doing, it is Bell. I was hoping someone would have some useful information like a contact or procedure to address this situation, but apparently not.

A bit so short response to the questions.

The op posted the following question.

I was just wondering if anyone has had bell reporting on their credit bureaus and if they were ever in a position where it wasn’t doing it and you called the right person and had it done who did you contact?

First question: I have had bell report to both major credit bureaus for one month on the opening of a credit account with it closed one month later. Basically a hard pull open close. Does nothing to improve my credit report because this is all bell mobility reported.

Nothing was shown on my contract with alarm force or residential tv and internet or with my previous providers. No pull nothing. They didn't do hard pulls so there is no record of my experience with either cable provider.

The one exception was Koodo which reported all my payments and showed open for 5 years. It did improve my credit score so koodos decision to do this was of benefit. It was my decision to leave and was surprise to not see bell mobility do the same reporting.

It is true that any company that is looking at ability to collect ongoing contractual commitments can decide to report payments not just do a credit pull but it appears in my experience that the only telecom company was Koodo reported payments. I have many companies not report payments after the credit pull and just leave it open.

As to who to call I think this has been well answered contact bell directly sounds like credit department is best.

I personally don't expect everyone to fully read threads or understand helpful or resolution selected responses so I expect that we will continue to see this question. Come up.

I don't generally comment on this type of question but the poster did ask a direct question from anyone to answer so I did.

Last comment when I switched I did contact bell and then escalated to a manager who referred me to credit department and was advised that it was not bells practice to report payment regularity to the credit trackers or even to always do a soft pull.

I didn't push it further because it just confirmed what I had seen in my own credit report. Wasn't happy with it but I wasn't going to give a hard time to someone who just knows what they know and it seemed to be fully honest.

Hope that answers the ops questions although it likely won't relieve the confusion or possible confusion for the reality that some companies report payment history which does build our credit rating while others don't. That is strictly a business decision and definitely not something the credit bureaus can answer as they only use the data sent to them and if there is an error we are directed to work with the source of the reported data.

Finally I know that sometimes I get a bit tired with seeing the questions of a similiar nature being asked and sometimes I just refer to the helpful answers or solutions for them to read but I also respect the desire for consumers to ask questions and this forum is one of those places.

I empathize with those asking the questions and those who do their best to answer even when they really don't have an answer that will change anything said before. I have been through this very issue have raised it with other companies not just telecom. I don't like it, appreciate those who do report because it is a value added feature to me and takes the small pain of a drop from a hard pull on the credit bureaus.

The discussion is a good one and unfortunately exists because companies don't always make it clear how they report to the credit tracking companies. It is another it is what it is and when people wonder they ask.

Happy trails all Bruce
