Today I just received my new “Giga Hub” modem. On this modem there are 4 ports. I noticed that the green LEDs on each port do not flash when plugged in while the orange flashes just fine. I tried with different Cat6 Cat6a and Cat8 cables, it always gives the same problem.

On my old HH3000 the yellow and green LEDs flashed continuously.

I spoke to a girl from Bell technical support, and according to her the modem is defective.. but I have my doubt!

Could my new modem would be really defective?

The official standard for ethernet ports is:

- Amber: Connected at 1000 Mbps.

- Green: connected at 100 Mbps

- Blinking: ethernet activity

- No lights: 10 Mbps (or cable not connected)

It's not a problem, just an indication of connectivity.

Some manufacturers differ a bit from the standard. Like on my Asus motherboard I have a solid amber (1000 Mbps), and at the same time a blinking green to indicate activity. Technically speaking the amber should be flashing and the green should be off.

I just looked at my Giga Hub ports. The 10 Gb port is amber. The 1 Gb port is amber. Those are the only ports connected at the moment. That is what I would expect to see. There are no other port lights, as no other ports are connected. My Netgear 1Gb unmanaged switches all show green (which is what I would expect) as they are all connected at better than 100 Mbps but not 1 Gb. Running a speed test would confirm that the modem might have a problem, but the lights alone don't suggest that.

Only on the 10 gig port and with the correct cable. I recommend Cat7 for 10 gigabit connections, even when not using the full 10 gigabit. Just saves you potential issues in the future should you ever upgrade to a higher profile and not realize the cable is an issue on the higher profile.

I have just tested 2 differents brand PCIe (version 2.0) network cards RJ45 (NoName RTL8125 RealTek and TRendnet) on my PC which has PCIe (version 3.0) slots. I have tried several cables (Cat5, Cat6, and Cat7) .
From Bell Network to modem I obtain 1725. Modem to my PC I obtain a MAX 1100 download and 300 upload.
Note that a TrendNet adapter it a better with Cable Cat7.

I tried in Full Duplex mode and in automatic mode.
So I don't like performances..

is it my PC or the 10G modem port (Giga Hub) that is too slow?

Do you have any suggestions ?

Otherwise, I will change my Bell plan to 1000Gbps instead of 1500Gbps.

In order for that to work, you need link aggregation (LAG), a feature not supported by the home hub. You will not need it if you are connecting to the 10G port. It's more back in the day to combine 2 x gigabit to form a single 2G connection.

Not really needed with today's hardware.

You can add a switch that supports LAG and connect the uplink to the 10G port, then connect all your wired devices to the switch. You can then configure LAG for devices connected to the switch.

Your uplink will be a single 10G, the rest depends on LAG capabilities of the switch.

I use a 48 port switch as my main switch for my residence, and it supports lag. EdgeSwitch 48 750W.

That is a layer 2/3 switch, not for the faint of heart to configure. The "new" interface is a lot simpler to use on it than the "legacy interface".

You can see the legacy interface in this video review: Video review

I would not recommend a cheap switch when using LAG, as they might not provide great results.

Looks normal to me for Gigabit onnection.
if the green comes on, that usually means 10/100 connection.
Flashing of either indicates activity at said speed.
This applies to the yellow ports

on the 10 gigabit port, mine shows green at 2.5 Gigabits.
On mine, I verified that gigabit was yellow, and 10/100 was green (on the yellow RJ45 ports)
