I received my Bell Wifi Pods on Dec 30 and I am happy to report that they are working very well. Setting them up was easy with the help of the Bell Wifi app. I have two pods - one in the basement and another one on the main floor. My Home Hub 3000 is on the top floor since I need to have a wired connection there. I don't see a need for an extender now - which I was using earlier.

Is it possible to user a Wifi Extender along with the Bell Wifi pods already installed? I am planning to get two pods but I am wondering if I can also add an extender to the network to improve the performance or to improve the range of my wifi network in case I find that two pods are not enough.

You can add one or more AP's to your network. AP's would typically be wired for optimal performance. I would try the pods first to see how they work out, as you might not need anything past those.

OK. Thanks. I am expecting to receive the delivery of the pods in the next couple of days and will see how they work.

It will likely work well and provide ample WiFi coverage.

I encourage you to wait and see. I don’t believe an extender can be used with the pods. They will work with your modem. You may be surprised at how effective the pods are, however.

My issue with the Pods is that Bell agent did not mention there is a monthly charge for each pod. From a cost standpoint investing in a decent extender will boost your Bell modem signal and definitely cost you less overall.

While you are right, there is a cost to the pods. I found that no solution, including POE, a Wi-Fi extender or other mesh type solution worked for me. After a couple of years of struggle, the pods were, in my case, the best option. Everyone is different, too. It really is trial and error.

I use an Ubiquiti U6+ Wireless access point, which is hardwired to a switch. It has great range and many convenient features.

Technically speaking you have to mount them on the ceiling, but I have it sitting next to my tv on my multimedia table. Great range and features and I consider the table/floor to be an upside down ceiling.

It's another option to look at, from a cost perspective.

Regarding the monthly cost of the pods - $5 per pod per month - I was already aware of it and took that into consideration. I was using a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Wifi Range Extender (which I know is an old model now) earlier but the issue with that was that I had to switch manually between 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz bands depending on where in the house I was. I did consider mesh solutions which are supposed to get around this issue but in the end settled on the Bell pods. For me the added cost is worth it. I may switch to a mesh solution in the future depending on what new products become available.
