Hey,

I recently moved the sfp module out of my HH3000 (I'm sick of the HH3000 updating and automatically turning the WiFi radios back on) so I could run the service directly into my router utilizing a media converter.

I'm using the Hellotek T8501S - which supports up to 2.5Gbps connections.
The connection seems to work after setting up PPPoE in the router WAN settings. (I get normal internet acccess)
However, I'm only getting about 50% of the download speed I had before. Should be 1Gbps/750Mbps, but I'm seeing ~350-500Mbps down now. »www.speedtest.net/my-res ··· b69fd791

I'm assuming there's a setting somewhere I should adjust? MTU or something?
Is there a way to check that the connection from the sfp module to Bell is working correctly? (to rule out that leg of the journey)

the famous Hellotek...There's a few things to check:

1. Dip switches on the Hellotek have to be adjusted so the SFP+ port can link at 2.5.

2. PPPOE causes a lot of processing overhead, so you have to make sure the router you use can handle PPPOE packets at speeds of +1 Gbps. (Many can not)

1. Both are set to up, which is the correct position as far as I can tell.
2. The router CPU doesn't appear to be getting overloaded, is there some other metric I should be monitoring for this? (RT-AC86U) The really strange part is that my upload speed is normal (~800Mbps).

You could try setting it to 1G and see if that makes a difference. Could be a sync issue.

Things like firewall, stateful packet inspection etc... can impact PPPOE performance. You can try playing around with that.

The Hellotek usually works ok as a media convertor, but there's always the possibility of quality issues.

Yeah that might've been it, I set B2 to 'off' and it's seeming like more normal performance (865.43/686.76, 847.20/777.45). It's possible because our service is only 1G they aren't operating the link to our strand at 2.5 or something funny. Ping is much better without the HH3000 muddying up the works though, ~1ms to a local speedtest server.

I've also got a brand new 10/2.5/1G router that I'll swap in soon, but I'm waiting on an updated firmware that fixes their PPPoE implementation (right now for ethernet attached clients it gets kneecapped at <1Mbps upload, which is pretty odd - even stranger is that upload to YouTube & other google servers doesn't get capped, lol).

Cheers!

Glad you got it resolved. I hear nothing but good news about the Hellotek device, so I might give it a shot myself one of these days.
