topic Block Port 50001 in Internet

I have a HH2000 modem/router at my business that I use for internet, and also to connect to my credit/debit payment terminal. I need to block port 50001 in order to pass my PCI compliance test. This is a security scan that identifies any potential vulnerabilities in the payment network that could lead to cardholder information being compromised. This open port is causing me to fail the test, resulting in non-compliance fees and other problems.

I have verified that port 50001 is open on CanYouSeeMe.org :

How can I block the port? One idea I have is to buy a separate router, use that to block the port and use the HH2000 as a modem only. Not sure if I'm on the right track with this idea since I am a novice when it comes to network setup. Thanks!

Hey @PatrickStar. Welcome to the Community, and thanks for your post.

Your HH2000 is functioning normally. If you have not already, we recommend setting up a Business internet account for your Point of Sale terminal. Check out Bell Canada Business services for more info.

Hi Patricia,

I should be able to use the same Business internet account for both my Point of Sale terminal and my desktop computer. Also, if I were to set up a second Business internet account then I would presumably run into the exact same issue because I was informed that the HH2000 is the only modem/router that Bell uses for Business internet accounts. I don't see any reason why the second one would behave any differently from the first unless there is something I'm missing here? Thanks -P

I have the Homehub 2000 Modem set up at my place of business. I do run payments through credit/debit card terminals. In order for those payments to go through they must meet the PCI compliance standards for security purposes. I was told to contact my ISP due to not meeting those standards and they have told me I need to close port 50001. How do I do this?

It's possible that Bell doesn't allow port 50001 to be closed, as it may be the port used for firmware updates for the HH2K.

Since you have a business account, you need to escalate the issue with Bell tech support.

If you get nowhere, then post your exact issue on the Bell Direct forum at DSL Reports. Bell techs monitor this forum and should respond.

This forum is only for specific issues that customers are dealing with, and only Bell techs can see the posts.

www.dslreports.com/forum/sympatdirect

Thank you appreciate that. Whenever i do call the bell tech support. It seems they have no idea what im talking about exactly and they tell me usually to just do the basic modem reset. I will look into this forum.
