My Sympatico email has been Hacked

Hello,

My email internet account was recently hacked. About one hundred people who had exchanged emails with me received an email to buy a gift for a sick person, using my name.

It seems the hacker used .gmail instead of .ca.

At least 20 of my contacts either called me , texted me, or sent to my .ca email.

Now sent emails end up in my deleted folder instead of my inbox.

What can (should) be done?

Good Day! It is unfortunate & disheartening when you here about situations such as this.

Here are some suggestions that may help you out:

Do you have an antivirus program? If so, scan all of your devices for malware, viruses, etc. E.g. Computer, mobile device, tablet, etc. If not, then by all means obtain one! (Bell offers the free version of McAfee to it's unlimited Internet customers.)
Change your password. Before resetting your password, turn off any other devices you use with Bell email. Then, change your password to something completely new. Don’t reuse old passwords, or use the same password on multiple websites. In fact, if you’ve used your Bell email password on other websites, you should change those passwords too.
Send a message to all of your contacts & make them aware of the situation.
Check to make sure there are no other suspicious entries in other accounts. Banking, Credit cards, social media, etc.
Login to MyBell & check that all of your Profile information & recovery details are up to date & complete.

Many thanks for your suggestions and I will get to work to apply them.

I do have another issue and that is that the incoming emails go directly to my Trash folder, not my inbox. What can be done to remedy this?

This could all be related. What are using to retreave you emails? Are you using an email client such as Apple Mail, Google Mail, Outlook, etc. or are you accessing your mail with a web browser? Check your mail settings on all of the devices that you are using. Junk, Trash, Security, etc.

Scroll through the remaining items ensuring everything is copacetic & meeting your needs.
