Fibe to the home availability

Wightman is installing fibre to the hiome in Orangeville, Bell has planned this for years but nothing has come forward. When Bell going to provide this because the prices look good and the currently alternatives do not match as far as speed or reliablity.

On the top right corner there is a Check availability button that you can use to look up your address or postal code. I remember when i checked my address in the past, it said it wasn't available but will be by a certain date. I checked again before that stated date and I was able to order Fibe to the home 1Gbps!

Bell typically doesn't reveal when a neighbourhood or a street will get fibre service. One clue will be Bell trucks, and contractors doing excavating etc.

Have you looked at the Bell site to see what's available now? Go to www.bell.ca/Bell_Internet/Internet_access and click on "check availability".

When Barrie will have a fiber optic cable ?.. I can’t handle with the 100MB download speed .. and the 10 mb upload speed and unfortunately at my area there is still no fiber optic.. please respond ..

Probably not what you want to hear, but Bell just announced fibre expansion for Barrie to be completed by 2025.

You won't know when it will arrive on your street until you see contractor trucks running orange cable conduit and someone comes to your door seeking your consent to bring the fibre optic cable across your lawn to your home. It may or may not come to a multiple unit dwelling until the landlord signs an agreement with Bell.

Did you check if it's available now? If not, go to https://www.bell.ca/Bell_Internet/products/Fibre-to-the-home and enter your address.

If FTTH isn't available at your address, unfortunately there's no way to find out if and when it will be. Bell doesn't reveal its rollout plans.

I live out in a rural area around Carleton Place. We have an antenna to pick up our 15mb internet connection from a local provider. We've been happy with the service but would like something with higher speeds. Up until November, the local company had started laying fibre with the intention of cabling the entire road on which we live. Now we've been informed that Bell has displaced that project and has started running fibre from their posts at the other end of our road.

My question is: where would I find out if Bell intends to continue installing fibre along the entire length of our road? We've done the check online to see if we have bell internet capability and of course we don't yet. And talking to the reps on the phone doesn't help as they don't seem to have any access to more information than I do.

Any ideas who I should be contacting?

A good question. One of the earliest tells that someone, including Bell, is laying fibre is utility marking. This is done by a third party company to locate any underground wiring. Even in a rural area there may be underground wiring that no one wants to hit or gas lines no one wants to cut. The next step will be a fibre laying crew, a Bell contractor, who will run the actual fibre either on the pole (aerial) or underground. At that point someone from the contractor will be knocking on your door to ask permission to lay fibre or run fibre on your property.

Another place to inquire might be your local municipal office. They usually know where utilities are working, so they might have some information.

It also sounds like Bell won the Ontario Accelerated High-Speed Internet Program contract for your area. The full list of communities who will be connected can be found here. No dates other than prior to the end of 2025 are given. Perhaps contact your local MPP and ask if they know.

Bell does not disclose plans before they are ready. They never have and never will. But if you watch for the tells, you can be aware. Here is was the stockpiling of orange conduit in places all around the community.

When will faster internet speed be available in Oakville?

I have Bell Fibe 50 and have been told this is the fastest connection available at my address. It is pair bonding and because of my distance from the node I cannot even get Fibe 100. Bell customer service are unable to provide expected timing of improved speed options. Some kind of a ETA would be nice.

Hello, I am located in Jordan Station. We are on a road that is connected to two main roads that have Fibe internet, but we were skipped. I would like to start a petition to bring Fibe through our street. We are still stuck with our extremely slow dsl/cable internet lines.

Hi @Cole

It's Bell's policy to not reveal its fiber expansion plans and that's not about to change, unfortunately. I know you don't want to accept that, but that's how it is. All of us have had to wait for fiber, some a lot longer than others.

You'll know when there's progress being made in your area when you see contractors doing locates for utilities, etc.

So far someone has been around and drilled holes up and down the street, not on my property. Now someone is threading cable. My question is, will someone else come to make the house connections and do I have to do anything to get mine connected or will someone be coming around to ask for permission?

I notice that every house that has a single conduit in my area is still above ground, while all home without the conduit have fibre installed to home.

Incomplete Neigbourhood Fiber Installations

How is that a house I can see from my backyard has Fiber which is probably 50meters from my house yet I don't?

This is one Section/Division/Neighbourhood, whatever you want to call it! The installation was done 2yrs ago and yet half the section was left in the dark with no signs of an installation happening. I was told by a tech 2yrs ago that if they didn't do this part of the neighboorhood now it would most likely come the year after but nope nothing.

This may seem like a rant, which it partly is, but why on earth would you not do the whole area instead of half. I have Bell reps come to my house only to walk away because they know they can't offer a better service than Rogers.

Internet instability

Hello,

I have been dealing with very unstable internet for the past 3 years. I have repeatedly contacted bell for trouble shooting. They’ve sent multiple technicians, replaced modems, etc. The past two months have become almost unbearable, with daily interruptions.
I was finally told last week that the copper wires in my neighbourhood need to be replaced in order for the connection to be stable. However, there is no timeline that bell can provide for this.
It’s frustrating to know that I am paying for a service that is unreliable and impossible to get because the mbps I’m paying for cannot be provided in my area?
I am finding it very hard to stay with bell after finding this out. The only reason I haven’t left is because I’m bundled and don’t want to deal with changing. However, Rogers does have a fine network in my area.

every time when Rogers is down and there is no FTTH available from Bell. Does anyone have an answer that when will Bell offer FTTH to Raymerville Drive area in Markham? It feels bad when the surrounding areas have FTTH but we don't.
