Hi,

I connect remotely to a computer in my home. My connection uses the public IP of the device so I can access it from anywhere. The problem is when the Public IP changes there is no way to find that in the Bell Wi-Fi app — it only provides the local IP (192...). Is there are way to get the public IP of one of my devices from outside my network?

Thanks!

Thanks! I'd just like to be able to find the public IP without having to create a DYN IP account or address. Do you know of a way to find what the public IP of my device is either through a service I can access or have email me the current IP? I'm trying to avoid having to pay for a service and a complicated setup. Thanks.

Hey Nick,

Thanks so much. I connected it as you said to the Advanced DMZ. I am a little confused how I would use that once set up? I have configured Microsoft Remote Desp=ktop with the public IP of the computer on my home network but now I'm not sure what to do. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You should be able to use and see this information while in home or outside of your home (via the Wi-Fi app which can be installed through Google Playstore / Apple's app store on compatible devices).

Thanks, Nick. I clicked the 3 dots but there is only the private IP (I have a screenshot if you want). My new issue is now I have connected via Ethernet because the wifi adapter on that computer doesn't seem to work anymore and am I even more clueless how to connect to that from outside my home network. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Jeremy

Hey Nick,

Thanks for the reply. I worked it out. The issue was my internal IP (within my network) changed so I needed to update the port forwarding (port 3389) with the updated IP. I was able to use the public IP of the router after the advanced DMZ to connect to the PC remotely. I never found a way to check the actual public IP of that PC using the three dots or hardware info because only the internal IP gets shown, but as I said, the router public IP is easy to find and that worked. I believe the port forwarding is using the computer name now so it is dynamically updating and will be easy to troubleshoot if need be. I really appreciate all the support in this forum, and especially from you, Nick. I do think the Bell Wifi app should be updated to show the public IP of any device on the network but the workaround with the DMZ seems to do the trick. Happy Holidays to all!
