New laptop will not stay connected to Wi-Fi

Hi everyone I bought a new Dell laptop. That has the newest standard of Wifi connection. My old 10 year old laptop has had 0 issues connection to internet throughout the house. This new laptop will not stay connected unless I am on the same floor as the modem… this doesn’t make any sense. I already updating all drivers firmware etc etc. I’m a tech savvy so I know what to try. But I’m honestly very frustrated.

when I’m close to the modem I’m getting 750GBPs which is amazing. When I go upstairs - NO connection. None: no internet at all… but all my other devices are fine upstairs. No issues with anything else

Also when I look at wifi connections, I don’t see 5G or 2.4G, I just see one connection for my internet. Could that be the issue?

Good Day.

There are any number of causes that can result in a timeout or lose of a network connection. I will assume that your new laptop is using Windows 11 as the operating system. 5G or 2.4G cellular signal has nothing to do with your home Wi-Fi connection.

Have you verified & checked out your Wi-Fi Network adapter connections? Is it turned?

Loss of signal or poor signal in the area that you are wishing to connect in.

Computer inactivity settings in Windows 11.

Check in your Wi-Fi properties that your IP assignment & DNS server assignment is set to Automatic (DHCP)address.

Network drivers, etc.

Windows 11 & Dell updates for your computer.

Are you using a VPN?

Have you run the Windows 11 tool to Diagnose Network issues?

Have you discussed this issue with Dell tech support?

I have a Dell windows 11 laptop, and I have Gigabit Fibe 1.5 (the modem is a Giga Hub). Whenever I come home, my laptop will never automatically connect to the wifi, I have to go into my internet settings and put in the password. In the settings for the internet, when I'm not connected, the internet connection has a little circle with an X on it (usually most internet connections have a lock there), and it says in yellow something along the lines of "There was an Error, Additional Log on Information may be Required". Once I put in my password, it usually stays connected, however, sometimes it disconnects and I have to put the password in 3 or 4 times in a row (usually a few minutes apart) before the internet stays connected, until I leave the house again or completely shut down my laptop. I'm just wondering what the issue is, because I do not have this issue on any other devices at home, nor do I have this issue with any other wifi networks I regularly use anywhere else.

Thank you!
