I had the Bell fibre Internet for 8 years. My ASUS router was connected to the modem and I did not experienced any problems with the Internet connection. Recently I upgraded my service to 1Gbps. This involved also the modem upgrade to Giga Hub modem. Since I connect the ASUS router (previous setting) to the modem LAN, I am not getting the connection to the Internet. Actually the modem does not even show the ASUS router in "My devices - Ethernet". When using the same Ethernet cable with the laptop I am getting the Internet access and laptop is showing in "My devices".

I have escalated the issue with Bell to the Level 2 service support and the representative actually noticed this strange behavior that the router is not showing between connected devices. He could not exclude the possibility that the Giga Hub had some Ethernet port issue, but that the router was not showing between "My devices" he found very strange. Since he could not see the device he was not able to do further investigation.

Modem firmware version:

1.19.6

In ASUS router I am using PPPoE to reach the Internet (as it was with the previous modem).

The log from starting the router

May 5 03:46:43 rc_service: httpd 256:notify_rc restart_wan_if 0;restart_stubby
May 5 03:46:45 wan: mac clone: [wan0_hwaddr] == [b8:70:f4:63:53:f1]
May 5 03:46:45 pppd[15540]: pppd 2.4.7 started by adminxxx, uid 0
May 5 03:47:00 WAN Connection: Fail to connect with some issues.
May 5 03:47:07 zcip client: configured 169.254.45.189
May 5 03:47:10 hour monitor: ntp sync fail, will retry after 120 sec
May 5 03:47:20 pppd[15540]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets

and then the router is waiting for PADO packets for ever.

Don't clone WAN MAC and ensure ADMZ is enabled in the giga hub.

Also, to test the port connect an ethernet device directly to the cable plugged into the WAN port of your ASUS router and if it connects fine than the issue is with the ASUS router, not the LAN port of the giga hub.

GigaHub doesn't support WAN aggregation, but this way I am able to connect to the Internet provider. All the other suggestions did not work for me.

If you are going that route you are better off using the Asus router as an access point, or using a switch instead of the Asus router.

If you are using it as a router you end up with double NAT.

Asus AP mode
