A FIX WAS FOUND!

I am not saying this will apply to 100% of you, but after getting 3 Giga Hub changes and with many days of trial and error + talking to tech at Bell. We figured it was an issue with most likely an anthena in the Giga Hub.

Sadly I couldn't fix it by myself due to the root of the problem. The fix a Bell technician did was to deactivate a 6G anthena in the Hub. Note that it is not a setting you can change by yourself as far as i know.

I went from having ping spike of 1000ms+ every 5-10 seconds to none at all. Of course i get a few spikes here and there but nothing very noticeable in game.

If you are still experiencing issues with spikes, call Bell and ask to speak with a tech(Not just the first person that answers when you call. You will have to ask the first person to pass you on to someone with more access)

I’ve been trying to play multiplayer games online and keep running into “spikes” of my ping going from 30 to 200 in multiple cases. It happens every 5-10 seconds and there’s no way to play a game without lag. This has been going on for months now and everytime I’m stuck trying to restart my router to get it back to normal. Streaming and the speed seems fine but these lag spikes are absolutely just comical.

Hi there @LagCentral,

Thank you for your post, and welcome to the Bell Community.

In order to help, the Community will need a bit more information:

Which online games you are playing?

What modem model do you have?

Do you have any 3rd party equipement connected?

Can you please share a screen shot of the results of your recent Ping test?

Do you notice the issue during peak gaming hours, when a lot of users are online at the same time?

Are you using a wired or a wireless connection? If using a wireless connection, can you test a direct Ethernet connection to your modem?

My Bell internet in North York area has been working fine up until 3 weeks ago when it started having connectivity issues every 1-2 minutes.

I've noticed that anything online or gaming related will experience an ping spike from 15ms to 100-200ms for around 5 seconds and its getting really frustrating.

I've swapped out my modem and a bell tech came to change something at the bell box but the issue still remains.

Anyone else having this issue in Toronto?

I'm having this exact issue, and it started around the same time in Toronto. I've just recieved a replacement modem today and it changed nothing. Was this ever solved for anyone? Calling tech again tomorrow but doesn't sound promising

Please use WinMTR to troubleshoot the issue. If it's a Blizzard Entertainment game, you can use their instructions. If not, you can use another host like www.google.com.

https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/27780

Just let it run for 15 minutes while you play the game, and check the logs.

Also, is this experienced on a wired connection, or WiFi connection?

So I have been experiencing a problem with latency lately, my son plays games, and says that ever so often (ever 10ish seconds) his ping spikes to numbers like 800 forcing his game to freeze and backtrack constantly, making it a frustrating experience, any tips on how we can fix this?

A few things that will help pinpoint possible issue(s):

- Wired or WiFi connection?

- All games, or only certain games?

The freezes and backtrack in games is often called "rubber banding". There can be a few causes for this, so the above questions will help narrow it a bit.

Still happening one year later. Digging into the forums, it seems to have been happening for a few years now.

No solution, it seems. I have the 3.0 gbps package, which I love. But the lag spikes are driving me nuts and making my personal use of my services completely moot, as I mostly game competitively in the evening.

Bell "Level 2" technicians are rude and don't even understand the issue after explaining to them multiple times, multiple ways. They always go back to saying that everything looks good on their end, and that I have the full 3 gpbs speeds, which is blazing fast. It's not the speed I need, it's the stability.

Thank you for your question. What specific gaming platform are you using to connect to the internet? Is this a wired or wireless connection to your GigaHub modem? What are the full results of a modem speed test and a speed test from your device? Clarification would be helpful and help us pinpoint matters more clearly.
