Usage always shows up on your Bell account, even when you have unlimited data usage.

This is because while you might have unlimited data, it's also subject to acceptable use policy.

I have noticed a huge increase in phishing e-mails designed to extract my account (the b1 number) and my password to verify something like requiring me to update my access to the Bell Mail web page (untrue) or the kind of "overage" you are being asked for. I ignore all of them. Be careful.

As like what DKS shared in their post: If this was a high usage warning from an email and that you have an unlimited usage internet contract with Bell, then the email is highly suspicious. So, I, too, advise to discard that email. Use your browser to log in to Bell and pull up your Bell Fibe internet package description. There ought to be this following package description if you have unlimited usage as a part of your internet plan:

Unlimited usage

If while you are logged into Bell, you are seeing a high usage warning, it may be best to call into Bell and to talk to someone who is responsible for Bell Fibe internet contracts/packages. They may be helpful in removing the warning if you have unlimited usage or they may identify why the warning is there to begin with. I hope that helps. Have a wonderful new week.

Thank you for your report. Do NOT reply to these "alerts". Do not click on them. They are from scammers seeking your account credentials. Mark them as spam and delete the e-mails. Also consider changing your MyBell password. You can confirm that you have unlimited usage on your internet service by checking your MyBell profile. Again, never click on these links.

Still receiving these messages. It shows that I used 40.642 gb on March 27th (it was only 2.4 on March 26!) when all I did was watch the Jays game, I called Bell and 3 hours on the phone again I got them to up my usage to unlimited, but after talking for 3 different reps. nobody can explain why it shows such a high usage yesterday. I pleaded with them to contact a Personal or Scam Dept. to explain why. While I'm happy with the now unlimited usage and rate, I feel like my request as to why the usage has jumped up in one day is being swept under the rug!

The one Tech at Loyalty said he thinks it was a Marketing ploy to get me to buy more from Bell. If this is so, that is terrible PR!

Good Day & Welcome.

Thank you for contacting the Bell Community Forum.

I cannot comment on what you were told by a Tech. I can only offer up the following for your consideration.

Without seeing the message, these emails may be another example of a fraudster trying to bait you into believing this is the real thing. Disregard these email messages! Do not reply to them! You did the right thing in calling Bell.

Which Bell Internet plan do you subscribe to? Do you have any other Bell services? Do you have Bell Fibe TV or the Fibe TV app? Are you using a streaming device to watch the Blue Jays games? Are there any other devices connected to your internet service?

Did you watch the full game? Pre-game shows? Blue Jays 2026 "50th anniversary opening ceremonies"? Post game wrap-up, etc.

Which channel did you watch the game on? Was it Sportsnet 4K or one of the other Sportsnet HD stations? Did you stream this game on a 4K device?

Friday night's game, Mar. 27th was scheduled to start at: 7:07pm.

There were two pre-game shows on Rogers Sportsnet that began at: 6:00pm & ended at 7:00pm.

The Blue Jays 2026 season opening ceremony began at 7:00pm and this ended shortly after 7:35pm.

The game duration was: 2hr. 26min.

Streaming a Blue Jays game (or any live sports event) in 4K resolution typically consumes 7 GB to 10 GB of data per hour. Given that an average baseball game lasts roughly 3 hours, a single 4K game will likely consume 21GB to 30GB of data.

Key Factors & Data Usage Breakdown:

Hourly Usage: 7 GB – 10 GB+ (4K UHD)

3-Hour Game: 21 GB – 30 GB+

Why so high? 4K requires 4x the data of HD (1080p), typically needing a stable download speed of at least 25 Mbps.

Is it possible to use that much data in a day? Yes. It is very possible.

Do you have a computer? Mobile device? Tablet?

More than one streaming device?

Did you update or download any other data? iOS / OS or app updates, computer software updates, etc.

If you wish to view the upload and download percentage usage details for each of your devices, this information can be accessed by logging in to your Bell modem.

Even though your internet plan is unlimited, internet usage is shown on your MyBell account.

Take care.

Hey there @Customerfor50plusyear

Thank you for reaching out to the Bell community 🙂

We can certainly understand why you’re concerned. While a jump from to over 40 GB in one day is unusual, it is definitely possible.

A sudden spike like that can happen for a few reasons:

A device on your network downloaded a large update - Smart TVs, computers, tablets, mobile phones, game consoles, and even security cameras can download things like system/app updates, cloud back ups or even software patches which can increase your daily GB usages.

Syncing a large amount of data to the cloud (such as photos or even security camera footage uploads)

A device got stuck in a download loop. Sometimes a device repeatedly tries to download the same update because it fails each time which can use even more GB.

The good news is that your plan is now unlimited, so you won’t be charged for any additional usage. However, you can still check a bit further on your side to perhaps locate the cause.

Reboot your modem. This will clear any downloads that might be stuck in a loop.

Check your devices for recent updates that may have caused the increase (such as security camera back ups, Windows Update iPhone/iPad updates, Smart TV updates, Game console updates, Cloud backup apps).

Change your Wi‑Fi password. This instantly disconnects any unknown devices that might be downloading updates.

Let us know if you have any more questions!
