topic Giga Hub / Home Hub dropping Roon ROCK due to IGMP/Multicast blocks and Band Steering in Internet

Hi,

I am having a critical network issue with my Roon ROCK (Roon Optimized Core Kit) server setup on my Bell connection. My Roon controllers (phone/tablet) constantly lose connection to the core server.

After reviewing my gateway logs, I found a direct correlation between the drops and specific router actions. Because Roon relies heavily on multicast traffic, mDNS, and SSDP (239.255.255.250) for device discovery and handshaking, the gateway is dropping the connection.

Here are examples from my router logs:

1. IGMP and Multicast Blocks (The Main Issue)

The logs show the gateway aggressively stripping IGMP groups. Every time this happens, the Roon ROCK becomes completely invisible to the network:

23:29:36: IGMP group removed successfully

23:33:00: Multiple lines showing IGMP group removed successfully for streaming channels

It seems like the aggressive IGMP Snooping or multicast optimization designed to prioritize Bell Fibe TV boxes is accidentally blocking and suffocating Roon’s SSDP discovery traffic.

2. Band Steering and Wi-Fi Roaming Drops

My Roon Remotes (like my iPhone) are dropping playback instantly when the gateway forces a band or channel change:

23:00:39: iPhone disconnected on SSID [...] → connected to [RADIO2G4]

03:14:05: Channel changed by GUI

When the device is steered from 5GHz to 2.4GHz or a channel shifts mid-stream, the temporary network bridge to Roon breaks.

How you can help me:

Since Bell firmware restricts a lot of advanced user settings, I need assistance with the following configurations on my Home Hub / Giga Hub:

Can we disable IGMP Snooping or create a multicast exception for my ROCK server's static IP?

If these firmware restrictions cannot be bypassed, would putting the Bell gateway into Advanced DMZ / PPPoE passthrough to use my own third-party router be the best path forward to stop these multicast blocks?

Looking forward to your guidance on how to configure this properly!

ps I have very limited networking understanding and would appreciate simple advice 🙂
