Last time I tried a media server was off an ASUS router with the ISP's device in bridge mode.

A decade later, to help us quit TV, I'd love to put some of our owned media on a server through the HH4000.

USB (3.0) or the 10Gbe? Pros and cons either way.

But - if you're going to answer USB vs 10Gbe, help a fella out with recommended storage devices? Is there a max storage size? Speed? Latency? All the things if 1 or 2 people will be hitting it at the same time.

Neither.

Just a few things you should consider:

a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device, ethernet-connected to your HH4K. One of the 1Gb ports will be fine.
Do you have a $ figure in mind for hardware?
The "maximum" storage size is driven by how much media you need to store (including room for expansion as the collection grows), AND
what you're willing and able to spend. You can get drives from 4TB to 20TB.
You can get a purpose-built NAS such as Synology, QNAP, Asustor, etc, OR
you can repurpose an old computer, or build one out, as a NAS. Lots of YouTube videos on how to do this.
Media server software to install on the NAS can be proprietary (Plex) or free/open source (Jellyfin).
Two people simultaneously streaming media from a server is not a heavy load.

Personally, I have Plex running on a Synology NAS.
