Robocall apparently from Bell - Your network protection has been removed. Is it a scam?

I just received a robocall which said it was from Bell. It said something like:

We've noticed that your network protection has been removed, which violates the terms of your network agreement. Press 1 to discuss this with an agent.

I hung up; sounds like a scam to me. I happen to be on Bell DSL but I doubt they knew that. Anyone else heard of a scam like this?

I've never heard of this outbound message. Sounds pretty Sus to me and I'm leaning towards scam.

I was really looking for confirmation that Bell is not in fact scanning customers' networks to check their "network protection" which is not only difficult but raises some serious privacy concerns.

Also, to give you a heads-up that scammers seem to be targeting Bell customers.

That is definitely a scam, Bell doesn't robocall and there is no such thing as network protection

Actually the term "network protection" is used by some vendors eg. Microsoft not for virus protection as I'd assumed but for firewall services. That's something it is possible to probe externally so would not require the level of intrusiveness I was assuming.

Thanks for confirming that this would not be Bell phoning me though.

My wife answered the phone and it apparently said they were Bell.They said;

We've noticed that your network protection has been removed, which violates the terms of your network agreement. Press 1 if you didn't do this

My wife pressed 1 instead of hanging up. Are we still ok security wise?

I just received a call from someone claiming to be Bell Canada. The caller had said that the network services had stopped earlier and that I needed to go in front of a laptop and he would walk me through the process. I declined because I presume this is a scam call?

That was in 2021. Today June 26/23 I received a like call shown as being from 413-***-**** but contending to be Bell. Broken English when I asked for his employee number; then telling him "this call is not from BELL" and I hung up.

Phishing! This is undoubtedly a scam. It is just another attempt at fraud. There is lots of it out there these days.(Masking their phone numbers, Robo calling, sending you fraudulent SMS messages, links, etc.)

Remember, BELL does not make Robo Calls! They will never send you a direct SMS regarding bill "corrections, credits etc." and will never direct you to click on a 3rd party website link or send account info via SMS etc. When in doubt, always play it safe.

Just hang up! Do not encourage these scammers by talking to them!

Better to be Safe than Sorry!

I just got 2 of these in the past hour ...1 call was from California, the other new jersey ...didnt know Bell Canada called from the US of A ...90% of call to anyone 'home' are scams. Bell really needs to do better on filtering/blocking these calls out.

I goofed out of curiosity and pushed 1. The guy sounded iffy in his explanation. I hung up. Didn’t give any information, so I think we’re ok.

That is the right thing to do. Hang up. Do not push a number ! All he is trying to do is scam you. Next time do not even acknowledge you are even there. Once they have a live person, they will try to reach out to you again. Better safe than sorry!

Rest assured Bell did not call you & your service is not canceled.

Fraud.... pure fraud! Phishing, etc. etc. Remember one thing .... Do not give out anything to anyone you do not know or trust! Do not share personal information. Do not open links or messages in Emails or text messages!

Reputable companies such as Bell, banks, utilities & highly regarded services & institutions do not send you messages or make calls such as this! They do not call you asking to provide personal information. Hang up! Report the fraud! & Delete!

Caution is the better part of valor! STAY SAFE & BE CAREFUL!
