Hello! Currently we do not offer our Internet modems for resale! If you are setting up a new internet account we will provide you with new equipment at that time. If you already have an account and are experiencing any trouble with your existing modem we'd be happy to help with that too.

Kind regards.

Unfortunately, you can’t activate pods you did not order. They belong to Bell and the original customer should have returned them. Only Bell can say more.

Can the modem I purchased online be activated?

So, I have a existing Bell Fibe 500MB service with a Hub 3000 modem. Lately the Hub 3000 WAN IP is changing nightly, which it has never done that before and at the same time, refuses to issue a device an IP at times. This seems to happen around the same time every night, give or take 60 minutes. When I called in, the tech suggested replacing the Hub 3000, have one sent out or swap it at a Bell store.

But, the Hub 3000 is long in the tooth and doesn't support Wi-Fi 6/6E, so I pickup a Giga Hub (Fast 5689E) on eBay, as I did not want to pay a rental fee for a modem. As it is, the monthly fibe Internet fee is high enough and rather just buy my own.

So here is the question, configuring it with the same b1 login and password and duplicating the other settings to match the Hub 3000, when the fiber is plugged in and turned on, after a short bit, I see a "1201 - No HSI configured". The error code solution suggests running the virtual repair tool, which solves nothing.

That leads me to believe that the device needs to be activated somehow against my existing service. I read somewhere that the ONT S/N needs to be added to my account, is that correct and if that isn't correct, how do I swap out the Hub 3000, which I will keep as a backup if there ever is issue with the service.

What steps do I need to take to do the swap, any suggestions?

Thank you for your question. Bell does not ever sell their modems. You cannot purchase a modem from any source and have it connect with Bell's fibre service. Bell will not activate such a modem, as you have found. The only thing you can do is obtain a legitimate Bell modem from bell directly and pay the rental fee once. If you plug your HH3000 back in it will work, as it is registered for your service. If you need to replace your modem, you can do as the Bell tech suggested. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. You can't even sell the Giga Hub, as Bell still owns it. Bell will also likely send the original owner a bill.

Hmmm, interesting, there is a bunch of them on eBay being sold. Some sellers have several being offered. If they are not legally being sold, wonder why that isn't being looked into by Bell, as they must be stolen goods if that is the case.

Thank you for your question. I can't comment on what Bell does or does not do re. modems being sold. Just know that if they are claimed to be Bell modems, they are not the seller's property. They belong to Bell. If the claim is they will work with Bell, the modem may be grey market or other ISP-owned modems. In all cases, Bell won't connect them.

This is a change from the days of dial-up and DSL service, when you could supply your own modem and it would connect with Bell. That is no longer true.

Good Day.

These Wi-Fi pods cannot be linked to your account. They would still be linked to the previous account holder.

I am not sure how you obtained the PODs, but in any event, they should be returned to Bell. It is the right thing to do. There is a Bell customer that is still paying a monthly rental fee or has been billed an equipment non return fee that would certainly appreciate your thoughtful decision to return them.

To return the Wi-Fi pods to Bell, please contact Bell Customer Service. Explain the situation to the representative. She will arrange for a prepaid shipping label. Once you have the the shipping label, please:

Attach it to the outside of the box (packing tape is recommended).

Drop off your package at the shipper listed on your shipping label:

Purolator drop-off locations accepting QR codes

Purolator drop-off locations accepting preprinted shipping labels
You can also arrange a Purolator pick-up by calling the number found on the return label or downloading the Purolator app on your mobile device.

Canada Post outlets

Take care.
