An analog phone system works best for faxes. If you have VoIP phone service with Bell, it may be possible, but you'll need an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) to connect your fax machine to your Bell modem, and then some configuring on the modem to allow SIP. It still could be hit-or-miss successful.

An alternative is to get an account with a Fax-As-A-Service company, which won't be cheap as they are aimed at businesses. The cost-benefit depends on how often you need to send faxes.

Give Bell Support a call and ask them for details. 1-866-310-2355. I know you won't be the first person to ask about this!

Hopefully people who are using a fax machine over Bell will add to this thread. I know one Community contributor who I'm sure has solved the fax issue, and I'll IM them.

Cheers,

ZaneP

If your Bell Home phone or Bell Internet services run on fibre-to-the-home technology (FTTH), you may have problems using older equipment designed for regular copper phone lines.

Types of older equipment may include:

Home alarm systems

Fax machines

Dial-up modems

Teletypewriters (TTY)

To find out if your devices are fibre optic compatible, please contact the equipment manufacturer.

If you have a home alarm system:

Most home alarm services should work normally. However, some older alarm systems that use the telephone to alert the alarm company may require adjustments. Contact your home alarm manufacturer or service provider for FTTH compatibility information.

Sending a fax

I do not send many faxes but I've never had a problem before now. My GP doesn't have an email address, except for her annual payment. To contact her I either phone or send a fax. I have a prolem that needs some discussion and to get started I've tried to fax her a rather lengthy description of the problem so she can more readily povide her advice when we talk. But I can not send her a fax, nor fax the website. I've tried a number of times over the last few days but I aways get a message saying the line is not connected. Since I've had this problem for as few days I think the problem must be at my end because if it was at their end it would have been fixed by now or at least they'd display a message about fax problems. What do I do?

You can talk to your MD to find out if they have upgraded their technology. That will not solve your problem or remedy your situation. If she does not accept emails & faxes are out of the question, there are not a lot of options available to both of you.

I could say call, text, message, video...... but if the basic tools are not accessible to you, then there is little use in going beyond those. I wish i could offer you an alternative, but there are not many!

Your best solution is emailing a document as an attachment..... but she does not do emails. You could spend a lot of money on new equipment to fax but that is not a viable long term solutiom.

I wish I could offer you more, but I can not.

You might and you might not. I have fibre, as well. I can send faxes on my Brother MFP, but receiving them has not been possible. With respect to your GP, you might be best to make an appointment by phone for a conversation.
