Fibe TV Box 7802 - Connect to my own home wifi

Hi, searched for info on this question and it doesn't seem like anyone has asked this before. I'd like to connect the Fibe TV Box 7802 to my home wifi system instead of the Bell 4000 Hub. However, in the Fibe TV Box 7802 settings, it seems like you only have the choice to connect wifi to Bell's 2000, 3000 or 4000 hubs. I'd like to know if these limited options are intentional or if someone knows that there's a way to connect the Fibe TV Box 7802 to different wifi networks. Thx

Cause the box is different from the apps. It doesn’t count towards bandwidth & data usage in the Internet plan. Some other discussions mentioned that it cannot even connect to Bell wifi pods and seems like it uses a different LAN or something. The only other option you have is to hardwire it to the modem.

Hi AlexS, I'm not so sure that the TV data isn't counted in the overall internet usage as your message seems to imply. The fibe receivers are connecting to the Bell 4000 modem/router which is what connects my house to the internet.

It seems to me, when I open up the network settings on the 7802, that it only allows you to connect to either the Bell 2000, 3000 or 4000. There's no option to search for other wifi SSIDs. It's for this reason I suspect the 7802s will not connect to a Bell Pod range extender.

My guess is that by limiting the wifi connection to one of the Bell medem/routers, Bell doesn't have to deal with customers having issues trying to connect the 7802 to non-Bell wifi routers.

I meant the only one you talked about. But same with 5662, both won’t interfere with those common Internet plans sold by Bell.

Yeah and probably less chances & loopholes for piracy as well.

Oops I misunderstood the reply last night. But I remember the notations/additional details on Bell’s website about the older DVR only noted that YouTube, Prime & Netflix usage would count towards the data usage, something similar to this https://www.thesource.ca/en-ca/Bell-Fibe The sys. of the new box looks very similar to the old one, so it’s likely lots of old rules are carried on.

Reset your TV box to factory settings, then hit your WPS button on your router (or turn it on in your router app), and then power on your TV box. The box will auto search for a WiFi network with WPS turned on and authenticate.

Thx JD. That's clever. What I ended up doing, dedicated the Bell wifi for media devices including Fibe, leaving my home wifi for everything else. I use a wifi bridge that connects to the Bell wifi and is hard wired to the 7802. So far seems okay. Other threads have talked about a firmware fix, but I haven't checked into that yet.

Yes, the modem is powered on, but all wifi antennas turned off. I have since discovered that they turn back on after a reboot, so I called Bell and 'supposedly' they have set them to stay off. I haven't validated that yet.
