Commercials volume on Fibe Bell TV

It’s become apparent that when watching Bell Fibe via internet. (BELL Streamer, computer and mobile, Amazon Firestick) that the volume for commercial breaks is much louder than the programming.

This goes against CRTC regulations on this subject which mandate volume for programming and commercials should remain the same:

If voiced to Bell/CRTC this can be changed.

I know this is a old post, but I am experiencing this on my satellite 9400 receiver, did some testing with rep no change. Happens on multiple channels.

Mostly noticeable on History Channel, on some global channels as well. The reps at Bell insist it is my receiver so just gave up and just deal with it. There are posts at digital home says it happens on the sports channels as well.

I was told at the time by Bell that Fibe TV app does not fall under the regular CRTC regulations re commercials volumes. Thanks a lot Bell!

No,TV not on surround sound, History Channel 1605 is most noticeable, but global news channels are sometimes worse than others.

Does it occur with all commercials or just specific ones and if specific ones, can you share which ones?

This is also happening to me. Just got the Android boxes a couple days ago. It was that commercial volume was lower and now it’s opposite.

I just moved to Bell Fibe TV and the commercials are definitely louder than the programming. This was not the case with my previous provider. One example was today (August 9th, 2024) during Y&R (around 5:10pm on channel 1203). I had to turn down the volume at least 4 settings during commercials.

Yup this happens on Bell Satellite as well, maybe a bit better now or just gotten used to it. Some are still noticeable for sure.

I don’t find that at all on my Bell Satellite. Some channels are louder than others, but that is across the board.

Good Day.

I do not see any major difference between the program & the commercial volume on Bell Fibe TV.

The nature & the content that is on screen & the audio may give the perception of higher volume. I suspect it has more to do with each persons perception of what you like to hear.

Canadian broadcasters and television service providers must follow international standards for measuring and controlling digital television signals, and must ensure that TV commercials are broadcast at a similar volume to programs. The standards apply to digital television services received through a television service provider – they do not apply to streaming services or analog TV.

Many televisions, receivers, computers, streaming devices, etc. have audio settings that can impact loudness. Have you checked your manual or consulted their support site for instructions on how to configure your equipment?

A good point. I have all of my TV’s connected to AV receivers, which does allow a lot of ways to adjust sound. One has a subwoofer, which really picks up the bass in certain programs.

You are absolutely correct. Between the settings on my TV, connected devices & my Sonos system you can hear it any way which way you so desire.

Audio preferences is somewhat personal. What I like & you like, may or may not be the same. The sounds that all of hear may be pleasing to one person & annoying to another or vice versa.

There is so much you can do today to adjust sound.

My Sonos system includes a number of further options that will control separate connected devices, TV or Music surround levels, a Trueplay room setup, speaker groupings, etc.. It has settings for Night Sound, Speech Enhancement, Loudness etc.

We have come a long way in the reproduction of sound & audio.

Yes I have a Sonos Bar as well, I played around with the settings to find that sweet spot. Like I said it is better now, but that doesn't mean that the commercials aren't still louder, we just found a sweet spot that is acceptable. I was just watching TSN and paid closer attention, yes some commercials come out grabbing your attention.
