Senior friendly TV remote

When is BELL going to recognize the need for a senior friendly remote? The current model has both very small characters and buttons. It is very difficult to see numbers and manage buttons with arthritic fingers. Given the largest growing demographic is the senior population, providing a larger remote should definitely be a priority!

I actually saw ppl on other forums complaining ab Bell Remotes being too big after switching. I vaguely remember one of them switched from Shaw. Maybe u can consider using a tv box. They have smaller remote with few buttons, voice control and some with large buttons. U can also wait for reviews ab voice control of the new Fibe tv cloud dvr.

Remotes compatible with VIP7802 receiver

I just had my 96 year-old mother's services switched from satellite to FibeTV. The remote that came with the VIP7802 receiver was the "voice remote" , at least that's what it's named on the "Bell Fibe TV Support" link emailed to me. On the Fibe TV remote link there were 4 other remotes listed along with the Voice remote, which was the sleekest, slimmest one. However she is not able to use the remote as it has no real buttons with some kind of relief (like she's used to), it's hard to read and she doesn't have the motor skills to allow her to press in the right place.

One of the other remotes the "Nova remote "is not as busy and looks more like the satellite remote she's been used to. All the Bell agents tell me I have no other option -that this is the only receiver she can have (why I don't know") and that the remote it came with is the only one compatible with her system. I was told that the Nova remote is not an option. There must be some option for elderly folks. Any help is appreciated

Have you double-checked whether the Google Assistant actually work? Some of the users on this forum noticed this feature doesn’t work but some says it does.

If it works, theoretically she only needs to press one button and speak out the action she wanna do. If it doesn’t work, try say the same thing in another way.

My Fibe slim remote is very difficult to find the right button. Especially in the dark.. usually how I watch tv. And the voice commands not very accurate , doesn't usually get it right. Wish list is for a better remote like magic lg with raised buttons. Too bad I can't pair it to my bell fibe reciever.

I have the cloud PVR and slim "Voice Remote". Voice commands do not work at all unless you unpair and repair the remote - then you have to stand within 3ft of your TV box and even then everything is laggy and only 50% accurate. The feedback on the remote buttons is poor, everything is laggy and channels often get entered wrong. There are no lights on the remote for viewing at night. The Rogers remote and voice commands, or an Amazon Firestick remote and voice commands are far superior to what Bell offers. My recommendation would be to use a Firestick with the Bell Fibe TV app, or just go with a different provider. Bell needs to take a long hard look at what competitors offer and come up with a better product ASAP.

I have a 1080P Samsung tv made in the middle of 10s, the voice remote has no problem even if I have a Apple TV 4K box or a Bell streamer on standby connecting to the same TV.
So the Alexia still works inside the Fibe TV App? I tried Siri it never works. For example, if I let it search a show within the app, it always shows the web results.

also a remote that will work with my receiver?

I had Rogers Iptv boxes and the remote had back lighting and voice commands and worked with my receiver, worked fairly well.

Remote for seniors

Hi,

we just installed Bell Fibe TV for my mother in a long term care home. Does anyone know if the simple universal remotes work with Fibe? Rogers has a simple remote for seniors but Bell doesn’t appear to offer this.

Anyone know of a method, when entering a channel directly on the remote control, to increase the delay or pause time in between pressing the numbers before the bell Fibe decides all numbers have been pressed?? My senior family member is slow when directly entering 4 digit channel number and bell Fibe thinks she’s done after 2 or 3 digits. Thanks.

Hi,

Recently moved from Rogers and love the Bell TV service. One thing I miss from the Rogers TV service though, are the back-lit remotes where you could see the buttons at night or in the dark watching a movie. This has me wondering if there is a 'viable' universal remote option to use in place of the default Bell remote.

I'd want to keep all voice and normal functionality, although I'm not sure if this exists. Has anyone had luck finding something where you don't lose functionality and gain back-lighting?

I am going to buy the big flipper. I’m hoping that will work for my 80-year-old mother. Seniors are the biggest population in Canada and are probably the ones watching the most TV. Bell needs to service them better.
I would also like them to be able to lock in my favorites. Having 200 channels is overwhelming. It took me two hours to set her favorites, but then she accidentally hits the guide and can’t get back into her of my favorites. I wish you could just work the settings to lock in the channels you want and that’s all they get. It is way too overwhelming for them.

Depending on the remote that your mother is using, if by chance she should select the: All channels guide by accident, she can return to her Favourite lists.

On a Bluetooth Slim or Slim remote:

Select > Options button on the remote control.
Select > Favourite lists. Select > My Favourites.

On a Voice remote with Google Assistant, there are two ways to select or go back to your Favourite lists:

Method 1: via Viewing Options

While watching live TV or viewing the GUIDE, press ENTER on your remote control.
Select Favourite lists.
Select desired list.

Method 2: via MENU

Press MENU on the Fibe TV remote.
Select Live TV > Favourites.
Select desired list.
