I have a 9400 PVR I've been using since 2017. I use it alot. There's some shows I record over the winter and save them to watch over the summer. I noticed something since March. I checked online and I found no answers. I went to the Bell store and they said it was the first time they heard of this problem. I noticed in March my amount of free space on the disk going down quickly. Since March when I record something it takes twice as much space on the disk. For example, I record something that is 1 hour it takes up 2 hours on the disk. I watch the 1 hour show, delete it and I get 2 more hours of free space on the disk. Before March a 1 hour show would take up 40 minutes on the disk. After I delete it I have 40 minutes more free space on the disk. In the past month if I delete something recorded before March I gain 40 minutes of free space and if I delete something recorded in the past 3 months I gain 2 hours of free space. I have unplugged the receiver for many hours a few times and it did nothing to fix the problem. I don't really want to do a factory reset because I have 65 shows programmed to record and I would have to start over like I did in 2017. I record less during the summer and I'm up to 100 hours of free space on the disk and I will be over 300 hours of free space by the end of August. Could this problem disappear when I reach 300 hours of free space? Is it a sign that I should buy a new PVR? Thank you in advance.

Good Day.

The problem will more than likely not disappear when you reach 300 hours of free space. Are you experiencing any other PVR recording issues? A failing hard drive in your PVR can cause various issues, including the PVR list becoming empty, inability to record, or recordings becoming unavailable. If you suspect a hard drive problem, you can try restarting your PVR. Leaving the receiver unplugged for countless hours will not resolve your problem.

You can try to do a factory reset. Resetting a satellite receiver to factory defaults should not erase satellite recordings. A factory reset only restores the receiver's settings to their original state, not the content stored on its hard drive. Recorded shows and movies will remain unless you explicitly choose to delete them and or there is a problem with reading & writing to the hard drive.

You mentioned unplugging your receiver for hours. I will assume you mean that you have hard booted your receiver by:

Unplugging the set-top box's power cord from the back of the set-top box or from the wall outlet.

Leaving it unplugged for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in.

After which, the set-top box should boot up properly in approximately than 90 seconds.

If you PVR recording issues persist, you may need to contact Bell Satellite TV Tech support for further testing. Please call: 1 888 759-3474

Take care.
