Yes, a power bar can be safely used to provide a source of current for TV electronics.

For example, you will often find in instruction manuals the following: ”plug your TV set or Receiver in to a wall outlet directly”. This is because people sometimes choose to use low grade non standard power bars. To compound the matter, they try to plug in just about everything else in the vicinity to this same power source.

If you are going to use one, do not go cheap! Buy a mid priced, quality & safety approved power bar. Do not overload it! If it comes with an on/off switch & light indicator, that is a plus. Just remember one thing, the switch controls the power for all of the items plugged in to the power bar. If it is turned off, nothing plugged in works!

Take care.

The manual says "do not plug the AC power adapter into a switched power outlet" for 5662 box. But I have plugged in both 5662 and 7802 boxes without any issue. It could the manufacturer is afraid that someone gets frustrated when everything is switched off and the 5662 box couldn't record.
