Change the number of rings on my personal fax line

How do I change the number of rings on my fax line, separate from my home phone number?

Ring selectors are purchased separately or built right into the fax machine. 

We recommend referring to your equipment's user manual in order to find the steps to change the number of rings.

I referred to the manual and attempted to change the number of rings; however, it also affected the number of rings on my home phone. Unplugging the fax machine did not help, either. I requested that the fax number be deleted.
