Apple Mail App on Mac Using Too Much Drive Space

I access my Bell Sympatico Mail using the Apple Mail App on my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. I have the Sympatico email set up with IMAP (keeping things on the Bell servers). In looking at the Mail App on my MacBook, it seems to be using almost 12GB of my 120GB SSD storage space, but only 260MB on my iPhone, and not much on my iPad either. And hardly anything on iCloud.  The large space requirements for Mail on the Mac has not left me with much free drive space on the Mac for other things and I am beginning to run into issues where the Mac is having difficulty with syncing other apps. I have deleted unnecessary files but I could get a lot of space freed up if I could reduce the space requirements for my Mail App on the Mac to be more in line with the Mail App on the iPhone and iPad.

On some Apps, like Apple Photos app, there are Settings options to "optimize storage" (keep more things in iCloud and less on the hard drive). But for Mail, I do not see any similar options. I am not sure how I can set up the Mail App on the Mac to use just a little SSD storage space like on my iPhone and iPad.

Any ideas or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi there @Ontario1
Thank you for your post.
This is something that would best be discussed directly with Apple in regards to as you're inquiring about "Apple Mail app". If you're experiencing issues with Bell Mail via your Apple Mail app, we'd recommend directly using Bell WebmailOpens in a new tab or window.

Thanks @BellNick

In parallel I have inquired through Apple (but no luck).  I know that Bell officially just supports the Bell Webmail website. But there are a lot of Bell customers using some of the more standard Mail Apps, such as the Apple Mail App, and I thought I would see if anyone else has run into this and had a resolution.  For me, it is only the Mail App on the Mac that is using a whole lot of drive space (not on iPhone or iPad).

If you could raise it up the line, in general I believe Bell customers would be appreciate it if Bell Technical Support staff could also be able to help folks using some of these standard mail clients for accessing their Bell Mail -- at least the most popular ones. They can be a bit handier for using than the Bell Webmail website.
