Today I received a phone call from "Bell Canada" asking about my router, that they detected an issue. . I was asked if I had changed any settings, and when I said no ( I don't mess around with it) then was asked if I had problems with my speed. Again, I said no, and then was hung up on. What was that about?

I received the same type of call a little later in the day. They were very adamant they were calling from the Bell data centre, on a terrible line and I made them call back three more times while I considered their requests. They wanted to have me download a program that would have given them controI of my laptop. I
eventually hung up on them as too much sounded like a scam and later confirmed with Bell support that it was a very sophisticated scam

Not a Bell employee, but I can say this for certain:
Bell (or Microsoft or Google or any tech company) will NEVER call you out of the blue and ask you to install an app or to give them remote access to your computer.
Never. Ever. In a million years. Do NOT give random callers access to your computer.

Please do not apologize. There is nothing to be sorry about!
You did the correct thing. It is important that all of us share these experiences. Hang up on them!
Scam! Bell Canada would never call you or send you a message advising you that you were hacked! These fraudsters wanted you to give them access to you computer or device via the Internet.
Beware of phishing & malware. Report as junk & delete. Never open a link in any Email or send vital information!
Do not share your information with anyone you do not know!
Caution is the better part of valour! Rather to be safe than sorry!

I don't know if you can help me. I received a call this morning claiming to be from Bell. They told me that my internet connection was being highjacked and wanted me to give them access to my computer so they could determine who was using the connection. The call came from Brooks Fiber Communications in San Jose, Ca. Was this an attempted Scam for was it a legitimate call.

This is not a question more of a gripe! I just receieved a call from said "Bell Canada" that I have been hacked and yet I don't use the internet very often! When I suggested they talk with my Engineer husband (he really is) they hung up! Imagine the audacity of Bell Canada hangin up on me! Now I know that was a scam so I am just telling this to remind people not to fall for this also to let Bell Canada that scammers are using them! ARGHHHHH
Sorry that I put this here but there is no way to chat with anybody online!

Just want to alert everyone about a phone scam going around.. (I should've heeded the alarm bells going off in my head when Caller ID showed a long-distance '205' number instead of "Bell Canada", and the caller spoke with a heavy India accent--- but read on...).
Caller claims to be from bell tech-support, stating they are doing upgrades in the area, and that your phone,TV, & Internet will be down 5 hrs due to slow speeds, and the modem needs a "modem boost" software download to bring everything up to speed.
(co-incidentally, our TV streaming has been rather sluggish & choppy lately, so I decided to go along with what this person was suggesting.)
He asked me to verify if the lights on my modem were blinking
Then asked if my TV was working
Then asked me to do a bell speed check (and make note of the upload/download/ping speeds)
Then asked me to call up 'Event Viewer'/Administrative Events on my computer and make a note of all the error & warnings (8,681 of 'em!)
Then proceeded to tell me my modem was slowing down and that I needed to do a "modem boost"
Then asked me to type u URL into my browser window, and download the executable program :
UltraViewer_setup_6.6_en.exe
At this point, I called him out, and said "no, I'm not downloading anything" and asked if he really was a Bell Technician. I then did a quick google search for "UltraViewer_setup_6.6_en.exe" only to have google tell me:
UltraViewer is remote desktop software, Some people feel that scam people may use remote desktop software to steal personal information or hack computers.
Bingo.
Caller insisted he was a Bell Technician, and gave me his name and a Bell ID: TW******
What I find alarming about this whole thing, is that he knew my home address, and repeated it on the phone, still insisting that he was a Bell technician.
I replied if Bell wanted to do upgrades to my modem, they will have to either send me an email with written instructions, or send a technician to my home, instead of asking me to download an executable file that could be used for all kinds of nefarious purposes.
When I insisted he send an email with instructions instead, he hung up.
Be careful about giving out any information over the phone, or downloading any files from anyone claiming to be from Bell over the phone.

received an automated phone call from “Bell” this morning. It said my Bell mobile service and internet had been blocked due to suspicious activity on my account. I was given a choice to press # 1 or 2 depending on what I wanted to do. I figured it was another scam and ignored it. Just reaching out to see whether or not it was a legitimate call from Bell. Thank you.

Hello,
I've just received a call from 647-434-2***, the person told me that my router is not providing enough speed as it should be, therefore wants to send a technician so they can replace my router for the newest model.
Is this call legit? I just hung up on my end... the person didn't even know my first and last name.

I received an automated call said it was from Bell and going to temporarily turn off my Internet access. Was this true or a scammer? If true, for how long and why?

Unless they ask for CC or personal information or say "Press1", then probably not a scam. There's an outage in Oshawa - don't know if you're affected by that ???
I guess you'll know for sure if your Internet does go out temporarily.

Yes, received this type of call this morning. I didn't suspect too much at first as I am a Bell customer, but when I pressed 1 to talk to a "Technician" there was a long delay and when the "Tech" got on the line the connection seemed bad and a lot of people noise in the background (like a call centre). The connection, plus the tech's accent made it difficult to understand everything he was saying, so I just let them know that the connection was bad, I already have FibreOp and that I would contact Bell directly to see if I was eligible for a free upgrade and hung up. I called Bell and they confirmed it was likely a phishing scam.

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum
You have provided me with very little information. Is this a SCAM? Could be!
Did they explain to you the purpose of the call & how you were suppose to validate this or did they provide you any details?
Treat it as a Scam! If in doubt call Bell directly.
- Never give out any of your personal information to anyone you do not know or trust.
- Do not reply to unknown emails, messages, etc.
- Do not open web links or attachments in supicious messages.
- Next time do what you did this time. "Hang up!"
Take care.
