Connecting Bell fibre directly to UDM SE with SFP+ and PPPoE

Has anyone connected directly to their router with an SFP and PPPoE or another method?  I'm looking for the right 10Gig SFP, but I'm not sure what one to get

I have a Ubiquitiy UDM SE gateway/router.  Currently I have a 10 Gig SFP+ to RG45 with a patch between it and the HH4K's 10G RJ45 port.  I'd like to eliminate the HH4K and go direct if possible.

thanks.

if the port accepts all traffic then just add the IP to your computer, if you have it locked to a single vlan then you would have to set it up accordingly. Also I'm no expert ask in the Discord server there are much more knowledgeable folks there.

thanks. I could’ve asked the question in a much simpler way so my apologies. In your case, when you set yours up, and you connected the SFP module to your switch, presumably, were you just in the native Vlan 1?

correct.

If you connect the SFP module directly to the WAN of a router, you have to use VLAN 35 on WAN or your will not be able to establish an internet connection.

VLAN 1 is the default VLAN for administration purposes. You should only change that if you have a specific setup where VLAN1 should not be the administration VLAN.

Interesting - I've downloaded the firmware from the link in the guide a few times on different PC's and tried to extract with 7Zip, Winzip, and also just tried to mount it and each case it says the image is corrupt.

Normally yes, but not in this case.

Post in the discord server, someone will be able to help

if only I could figure out how to lol. And I’m an IT admin one would think that I could figure out how to post something on that site

Passing pppoe to a Ubiquiti DM Pro SE.

I have the 3up/down plan, and getting nowhere close on upload speeds.

DL is 2500+ but upload is like 800.

Anyone have any ideas?

PPPOE overhead. Basically the nature of PPPOE packets means they require additional computing power to be processed, and once the limit of that computing power is reached you will also have reached your maximum data speed.

The Dream Machine lacks the processing power to handle a 3/3 PPPOE connection.

I can get full speeds with ADMZ, but the connection (at least what the UDM shows) is not stable.

Has anyone tried a GPON ONU Stick to replace the GPON from bell to be able to connect directly into an SFP port? I have directly bypassed the bell equipment using a media converter (GPON to RJ45) but have read that there are web accessible GPON ONU Sticks that can be used instead. You cam then bake the modems serial number in the stick along with the PPOE creds.

In short yes it is working as long as you are willing to spend some time and money.Time to program it and money to buy the said stick. It is not cheap (200USD).

As far as how can go over to dslreports forums and there are plenty of resources there that may help you if you are interested, It goes without saying that if your Internet goes down Bell won't help you unless you restore the default equipment they provided to you.

Check the speeds of the GPON... it may limit you based on your bell package.

I use the Bell supplied GPON from the HH3000 directly in an RB5009, works like a charm without any issues.

I also have an UDM pro that I used previously without an issue, but the UDM Pro SE cannot sync at 2.5, only 1 or 10. You have to force it to sync at 1/1 and your instability issues could be related to the sync speeds.
