IP Address does not match my Geographical location

Since a couple of weeks ago, my IP address is displaying as my location as "London, ON", whereas I am physically located outside of Ottawa, ON.  While the internet itself is fine, this 600 km difference seems to mean that I am not getting the desired sports coverage as a result of regional coverage... the wrong blackout information is being applied.

Note that I don't have or have never used any kind of IP manipulating software/VPN... I am getting this information from lookup sites like "whatismyip", etc.

Is this something that is within my ability to change?  Without having to 'trick' sites to believing my IP is something else?  No shenanigans; just want it to be accurate so I can get my regular sports back (which has been fine since moving here, about 2 years ago)...

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Yes I did.  They said they would try to ask for an ip reset but that it did not always work. They said to log out of the app and try it in 30 mins.   If that did not work, they said to contact Bell.   It did not work and I contacted Bell, but Bell did not help either.

Hi @gaby31, thank you for your reply 🙂

We recommend that you chat with a specialist from Sportsnet directly on their website in order to have this resolved. For more information check out: I think an NHL regional blackout is being incorrectly applied. What do I do?Opens in a new tab or window

we have the same problem. We are unable to watch leafs games on sportsmet or tsn due to regional blackout. I have confirmed the my postal code address where we are trying to watch the games on Bell Fibe using Bell internet is not in a blackout zone. When i check what is my ip. Com it geolocates me 5-600km away. I have tried resetting my modem to get a new ip and each time we het geolocated 5-600km away from our actual location. I called Bell fibe Tv and they confirmed my subscription address postal code correctly and they told me to call tsn and sports net. Both tsn and sportsnet tell us that it is not them call bell tv. I called bell internet and they told me that they have a dynamic ip address system and my geolocation will change and its not their problem. I have made several 1h calls to bell only to be told its not them. If this is not corrected i will follow up with the crtc with a formal complaint. My only source of leafs games is using the tsn and sportsnet app by downloading it to my smart tv and streaming the games however it is often very jittery and i get the buffering wheel even though i have paid for the fibe 300 service and there are no other users on my home internet at the time and the model is directly below the tv. Has anyone with the same issue resolved it. We may have been given a used modem from bell not certain but it was not in new packaging when we received it.

this link is only for people who subscribe to Sportsnet directly. Most people on this forum subscribe to sportsnet and TSN through bell fbe tv service. They immediately tell you to follow up with my tv provider. Patricia you seem like someone trying to help. Can you please bump this thread up to a very senoir level of support.

I hope someone can help you.  I have not been able to resolve the issue.  I do believe it is a Bell problem.  This only began happening when I switched to Bell (from Rogers).  Never had this problem with Rogers. I could watch almost every Habs game across sportsnet and tsn. Now i can barely watch anything. Not happy and will be switching providers when this 'promotion price' is up unless something changes.

I live in Ottawa but my IP address shows up as being in Actinolite.  Due to this, I cannot access geo-based services that expect my IP address to be in Ottawa.  Can I get an Ottawa IP address assigned to my Internet service?

Hi there @dpauld

Thanks for your post 🙂

Can you try rebooting your modem by unplugging it for around a minute, then power it back up and check to see if your IP location is correct.

Please keep us posted.

@BellPatricia

Patricia,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I unplugged the modem and it rebooted - and downloaded an upgrade, I noticed - but in the end, my new IP address was still located in Actinolite.

Can I get an Ottawa IP address assigned to my Internet service?

Thanks for letting us know @dpauld.

This is a bit nuts. You shouldn't need to login and out of your modem. Cuts off phone, Internet and TV. Bell can spoof any IP to you. It's not TSN's problem it's Bell's with the last upgrade. You shouldn't need to call anyone other than Bell, that's who collects your money meaning that's who you pay to give you service.

Please advise who I contact at Bell. Thanks.

Hi there @JCADS

Thank you for reaching out to the Bell community.

We want to help, and would like to get some more details.

Can you share what IP location you currently have and where you are located (i.e Ottawa)? Are you using the TSN app, or are you accessing TSN through the Bell Fibe TV app?

Keep us posted,

@BellPatricia

Good Day.

In order to assist you, could you please provide us with further information & specific details? Ottawa Senators games are normally blacked out on Centre Ice in the Ottawa region. Viewers in the Ottawa Senators region can normally catch games on TSN 5.

  1. Which Bell TV service do you subscribe to? Fibe TV, Fibe TV App, or Satellite?
  2. Which TV package do you subscribe to? Starter, Good, Better, or Best?
  3. How are you trying to access the local Ottawa NHL TSN games? TSN, etc.
  4. Are you using a Premium subscription service such as: TSN+, NHL Centre Ice, TSN1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & TSN 4K, etc.
  5. Does your Bell TV package include TSN?
  6. Are you logging in to Fibe TV App with your MyBell credentials?
