Media Converter instead of Gigahub for FTTH

Is Bell offering (or have then considered offering) a Media converter box as an alternative to the GigaHub router? My home network setup exceeds what the GigaHub can provide (i.e VLANS) and since the SFP module can't be removed, it seems a waste upgrade my FTTH WAN bandwidth and have the Gigahub sit in the closet as a media converter. I would think that a media converter box would be a cheaper option for Bell to provide as well.

The HH has a 10 Gig port, so you can get the full speed profile if you have matching equipment by using that port. The average user will not have a bunch of equipment in their setup, so providing a media converter box rather than a router will not be a good choice, especially considering a media converter would just convert the signal. You would have no router functionality, no switch functionality and that will not work for the average user.

I agree - for the 'average user' the GigaHub is more than adequate. For the group of us IT enthusiasts (hopefully I'm not alone) who have homelabs, VLANS, Network appliances, security and infrastructure, etc., we already have the equipment in place, so an MC would be preferred instead of the Gigahub - especially if IT closet real estate is at a premium. Keep the Gigahub for newbies, but Bell could provide an MC as an option for the IT experienced.
