New gigahub - Google Home cannot connect to speakers

A family member was upgraded to Bell Fibe and got a new Giga Hub.

None of their Google speakers worked. I factory reset one and tried to add it. The network can see it but can't connect it in the final step. The Google Home app told me to disable AP isolation on the modem. I couldn't find it in the model settings. I did disable Manage Entire Home but that didn't change anything. Has anyone else encountered this?

I wasn't troubleshooting, that's how I solved the problem a year ago.

Perfect,

Thank you very much for clarifying @Chase33 🙂

Here I am in 2024 and this problem obviously hasn't been solved. Going through this right now and it's incredibly annoying. Here is what is (kinda) working:

  •  go to 192.168.2.1 and click on "manage my wifi"
  • type in the admin password (mine was written on the little sticker with the wifi network name and password)
  • turn off "whole home wifi" and save
  • click through to "advanced settings", unclick the "keep a common network name (SSID) and password across all bands" box, rename the 5.0 GHz band by adding "-5G" or whatever. keep the 2.4 GHz band the original name. I turned off the 6.0 GHz band entirely because none of my devices could see it anyway, but you could rename that too. leave all the passwords the same.
  • make sure your phone is connected to the 2.5 GHz network. open the Google Home app
  • go sit next to a google home device, do a factory reset (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7073477) and wait for the thing to reboot and give the standard welcome message
  • while waiting, remove that device from the google home app
  • go through the whole setup process for the device as if you were adding it for the first time. choose the wifi network your phone is connected to (the 2.4 one that you kept with the original name). if the wifi connection fails the first time, hit "try again" because it will sometimes work the second time around
  • repeat the above process for every google or IOT device in your home, while cursing yourself for doing this router "upgrade" that has been nothing but a huge inconvenience
  • eventually I think the idea is you should be able to go back in to the router and reset all the networks back to the same name and turn "whole home wifi" back on so you can use your pods and wifi app and whatnot again, haven't got to that step yet

Good day @spiderplant,

Welcome to the Bell Community, and thanks for reaching out 🙂

There is a thread in the community called Home hub 4000 and 2.4 Ghz that has a lot of useful information. Check out this helpful replyOpens in a new tab or window for steps on how to temporarily disable the Whole Home Wi-Fi so you can connect devices to 2.4Ghz.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Community.

It has to be something with the Home hub WiFi. I use a separate AP connected at one point to a HH 3000, that is WiFi 6 and also supports up to WPA3, and I can connect all my devices to it without any issues.

It has a mixture of 2.4, 5 and 6 Ghz devices, all under a single SSID name. Works without any issues on all 3 bands at the same time.

I would highly recommend going that route as it makes your complete WiFi setup provider independent, so if you ever switch providers your whole WiFi network in unaffected. The AP just sits on the tv stand tucked away behind my tv, and provides WiFi throughout my whole home.

Had the same issue today after setting up wifi for the first time. Confirming that what worked for me was:

  1. Manage My Wifi > turn off "Whole Home Wi-Fi" (not sure if this is necessary but I did it)
  2. Manage My Wifi > Guest WiFi Network > turn off guest wifi (not sure if this is necessary but I did it)
  3. Manage My Wifi > Primary Wifi Network > Advanced Settings > Uncheck "Keep a common network name (SSID) and password across all bands (recommended)" and rename individual wifi networks to indicate which GHz they refer to
  4. Restart Modem and reconnect my phone (which I was using to set up the Google speakers) to the 2.4 GHz wifi
  5. Reset all Google speakers and go through setup again

Hi Everyone!

i had the same issue i just moved from another network to Bell and my google nest hub stopped working. I tried all the different solutions on this forum including setting up at 2.4 Ghz. A simple trick worked for me which is I completed the recovery password setup and changed my default wifi password to a new one. Then tried it again and created to a new room and it worked!

I am having this exact issue. None of the above suggestions have worked for me. Beyond frustrating.

Hi there @shahr
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Community.
Are you able to share which model modem you have?
Do you have your Whole Home Wi-Fi on or off?
Have you tried factory resetting your Google devices?
Have you tried deleting your 'home' via the Google Home app and re-creating it (we'd also recommend re-installing the app)?
Looking forward to hearing back.
