When I open Outlook on my desktop all the emails in my Inbox disappear.

Twice within the last few days when I open Outlook on my desktop computer, all the emails in my Inbox disappear. Note, they disappear, not get deleted. I click on another folder, like Sent, then click back to Inbox and Outlook will re-synch with the server and re-download all the emails. Of course with thousands of emails, this takes some time.

Has anybody else had this happen?

Thanks

Hi there @Joe27
Are your email server settings set up for IMAP or POP?
Looking forward to hearing back.

Saved emails disappeared

Good afternoon @Hotspurfreddie,

Thanks for reaching out to the Bell Community.

Is this affecting all of the emails you had saved, or a certain email/address?

Can you share if you are accessing your Bell email on a web browser, or through a third party software such as Outlook?

- Patricia

Just the save folder content. disappeared

Sorry sympatico.ca account

Good evening @Hotspurfreddie,

Can you please clarify how you are accessing your Bell webmail? Is it through a browser (and if so which browser) or via a different program such as Outlook?

Have you tested on a different device to see if the folder is there?

As I said folder  NEVER disappeared just the content  inside the folder

Are you using IMAP or POP3? If only one of your devices, computer, etc. is set up with POP3, the folders will remain, but the email will disappear when the option is set to remove from the server?

POP3 downloads an email from the server and then deletes it. IMAP stores the email on the server and syncs it across several devices to access over multiple channels until it is deleted. POP3 does not allow you to organize emails in the mail server mailbox, while IMAP allows you to organize the server mailbox.

@BellPatricia asked you to clarify how you are accessing your emails? Email client such as Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, etc. or through a browser such as Edge, Google Chrome, Safari, Thunderbird, etc.

All of my archives in Bell webmail have disappeared. Any idea why or how I can recover them?

To provide more information.  All of my archived emails are still available on the email app I use. Thunderbird.  But completely gone from webmail.bell.net that I access from my Android phone.

Hi there @CinP,

Welcome to the Bell Community.

There are a few different things to check out to see if we can determine what's happened.

- Have you setup email forwarding to another email account? You can check if emails are forwarded using the steps below:

  • Using your Bell webmail, click on Settings (gear icon) on the top right
  • Select Mail then select Mail Forwarding
  • Is Enable Forwarding checked?

- Have you created a filter that automatically moves or deletes certain emails?

To check in settings simply:

  •  Select Mail
  • Select Mail filter
  • Are there any active mail filters setup?

- Were the emails accidentally deleted or marked as Spam?

  • You can check in the Junk and Deleted folder to see if the missing emails are there.

Keep us posted,

- Patricia
