Wi-Fi Pod Speed Tests

Up until recently I was getting between 300-600 mbps on my POD and Hub over wifi. (I don't have wired connections) However, I am at best getting around 150-200 mbps on my POD now (no change with the Hub, and there was no change to my set up).  I rebooted everything to see if it would make a difference, but it remains the same.    This has been going on for about a week, and measured at different times throughout the day.

When I run the Bell wifi checkup, it is showing a download speed of 1.8 gbps on the hub, and 1.5 gbps on the POD - with a strong signal to all my devices.  That said, I see no difference in the performance of any of my devices. I also note that the Bell wifi app is showing my devices are getting 2-3x the speed that I see when I run Speedtest or Fast.

I am curious as to why the POD speed connectivitiy has dropped in half, and why Bell keeps sending me promotions to upgrade my speed, when I can't even come close to getting the speed I pay for now.

Indeed, the same versions that have the capped download speed that has been around for a while.

What prompted me to even look at the firmware was the fact that in the Bell WiFi App, the pod is now connected to the Giga Hub 4000 via 6GHz for the first time in a while.  Prior to this it connected to the Giga Hub via 5GHz and to a Bell Fibe TV box via the same channel on 5GHz.

What I found is, the optimization routine that runs periodically, will determine the best frequency that the pods connect with. I have some that connect at 5GHz and some at 6GHz, but will change from time to time. I have a total of four 6E pods and the split seems 50/50 on the 5GHz/6GHz for the most part with my setup.

And I assume the download speed issue exists regardless of the band the pod and the client device connects to.

Same issue whether 5GHz or 6GHz unfortunately. The plus side with the 6E pods, they perform much better than the legacy pods. I only replace the legacy pods for the 6E pods because a couple of them were going bad, connect fine, but no Internet through them at time for some reason even at 5GHz. Either way, they both had the speed issue since December 2024, though the 6E pods are more consistent with achieving the 200mbps, where as the legacy pods I noticed where between 50-150mbps mostly, just bad enough to affect streaming.

6 months and counting.  Yawn.

Still waiting...

Surely after 6 months, we could have an update from Bell??

Last update heard was a fix was being tested, but no ETA on when that will finally get released. But that being said, pretty sad that it has taken so long so far to get this resolved. Clearly not a priority by the vendors involved to resolve the issue between the modem firmware and POD firmware. Bell should be pushing them harder to resolve this issue or start to find different vendors more interested in providing products that actually work properly to begin with.

Maybe @BellDRock can get an update for this thread what is happening with Bell. It is frustrating that this has dragged on so long and no community update on where things stand.

That’s a good suggestion. Staff does share with the Community All-Stars, but nothing yet.

Yesterday there was an update pushed through on my POD, and now the speed is even worse.  Its averaging around 45 mbps.  The signal at best says fair.  Seriously, what is happening here?  6 months plus and the update we get is no news.
