Is a phone unlocked if bought from Bell.ca?

I am interested in upgrading my device to an iPhone 13. I have a Bell mobility plan and an E-sim from the US which I use regularly when I go down south. Are all Bell phones unlocked? Will my US sim work on a Bell phone?

Hey there @Phazeone

Welcome to the Community and thanks for your post.

Protecting your new phone from fraud is important to us. That's why we've added a 60-day security lock to your new phone, ensuring that it can only be used on the Bell network. After 60 days from the activation of your phone, it will unlock automatically at no cost. Should you need to unlock your phone sooner, please call us at 1 877 327-8151.

You may need to check with your US carrier to make sure that it runs on the same frequencies as us, however most do.

If for any reason your phone is still factory locked, check out our How To document titled Unlocking your Bell phoneOpens in a new tab or window to learn how to complete the unlock.

Your phone should already be unlocked if you have an Apple phone purchased after January 1st, 2014 or any other make purchased after November 30th, 2017 and activated on the Bell Network.

If your phone was purchased prior to either of those dates and an unlock is in order, then there are just a few things to check off:

  • Your phone has not been reported lost/stolen
  • Your phone is at least 3G/LTE
  • You have a non-Bell SIM card

Next, you’ll need to know your phone’s IMEI.  Dial *#06# on your phone if you don’t already have it on hand.

You will need to have internet access in order to access MyBell.

Go to the MyBell unlock device page to get started unlocking your phone.

Then, once you’ve got your unlock code, get next steps for unlocking your specific device
