Can I remove home phone service but still keep the internet?

We have a cottage with a land line that provides a phone and unlimited Internet. Can I remove the phone service but still keep the internet. Most guests who use the cottage have their own cell phones and with all the new VoIP apps it seems pointless to keep the phone. Contemplating having a shared cell phone just connected to the internet with a VoIP app installed.

Yes totally doable, I've got that set up at home as we all have cells, and my kids are now older and can call for help and give the address if needed.  When they were young though I kept it for security reasons so all they had to manage to do was call 911 in an emergency.  Otherwise it was just my mom and scammers calling.   Just keep a charged power bank handy in the event of a power outage, especially if you are at a cottage.

Yes, it is possible.  We wanted to disconnect our home phone because we didn't use it anymore but still wanted to keep our phone #.  We were able to port it over from Home Phone to Cell Phone with no impact to our internet.  The only thing is we lost a discount we got for having more than one service.

Interesting for me as we were about to drop our Bell land-line and were told that we would loose our sympatico email addresses when we did this.  But of course we access our sympatico email from our Bell Mobility cell phones, not our land-line.   I'm perplexed...
