Audio cuts out after fast forwarding recording

Ever since I received the new interface on my VIP 7802 I noticed that after I fast forward through commercials on a recorded show (or jumpVIP7802 30 seconds multiple times in a row) I frequently lose all audio from the recording.

After the audio is lost I tried pausing, playing, rewinding, fast forwarding, etc but it does not restore it - everything remains silent. The simplest way I found to fix it is by stopping the show and resuming it, but it is likely to happen again the next time I fast forward. This is very annoying and happens at around half of the time.

Had anyone else experienced this? Any solutions or workarounds?

I started using the TV speakers alone and it looks like I don't get the same issue. Then I tried hooking the speakers back up and switching the TV setting to use them exclusively instead of the auto switching settings; this also seemed to fix the issue but I'll keep an eye on it for a few days to see if it recurs.

This issue only started with the new software update for the Fibe box so I believe something has changed. Also, I can't replicate it with the Fire TV stick I use on that TV.

I switched from computer speakers to a soundbar, and I also rebooted the digital box. The problem no longer occurs for me. I'm not sure if it's the soundbar hooked up through the same headphone jack, or if rebooting the digital box fixed it.

After the problem getting worse and worse I power cycled my router and reconnected the TV digital box. Now going on 3 days without a problem. Fingers crossed. I never tried the TV speaker. My setup is Bell digital box to TV via HDMI. The sound passes through the TV and out via the digital output to my Yamaha Home theater system which is where I control the volume

Hey there @Rodenti,
Thank you for reaching out to the Bell Community.
Is the 7802 plugged directly into your TV set, or is there any third party audio equipment in between? Also, are you able to test to see if this happens on a different device/receiver?
Keep the Community posted,
@BellPatricia

It's plugged directly into the TV via HDMI and the output from the TV is into a set of amplified speakers.

Before for "upgrade" it was working fine.

I haven't used my other 7802 enough to see if it is affected. I'll use it this evening to check if I can trigger the same issue.

Hey @Rodenti

Thanks for the reply.

Did you have a chance to test this on your other TV receiver yet?

@BellPatricia

Yes, I was unable to replicate it on my other box.

The issue continued all weekend on the first one though. After fast forwarding, rewinding, skipping forward or back, the sound would continue for a second or two then cut out totally until I stopped the recording and resumed it. This happened at least half the time for some recordings I watched.

If I just let it play it never had any issues.

Thanks for letting up know @Rodenti

Are both audio setups on each TV the same: receiver directly connected to the TV via HDMI, with the TV's output going to amplified speakers?

No

Box 1: HDMI to TV, audio out (using headphone style jack) to computer speakers. This one has the issue

Box 2: HDMI to TV, HDMI ARC from TV to soundbar.

Good day @Rodenti,
Can you test a bit further on Box 1 and use the TV speakers instead?
@BellPatricia

Sure, I'll try it with tv speakers only.

I have the exact same audio problem with a similar setup but have not tried switching to the TV speakers yet. But I also had another issue with the video following the latest upgrade. I was able to correct that by setting the Display under settings from AUTO to 1080p which leads me to believe there might be issues with the HDMI negotiations between the Fibe box and TVs following that latest upgrade.

Using the TV speakers I notice that the sound starts as soon as I stop fast forwarding, then cuts out for a split second, then cuts back in.

When I use the TV speakers I don't seem to have the original issue, but when I use external speakers it happens all the time regardless of whether I have the TV set at auto or fixed for the speaker output.

I'm going to experiment with a different soundbar hooked up to the line out/headphone jack to see if I get the same issue.

After a few days the  problem came back, even with the soundbar. Now I lose the sound frequently again after fast forwarding or shipping forward. I'm still looking for a permanent solution that doesn't involve having to fall back to the tinny tv speakers.
