Preview channel comes on when I turn on my TV

When I turn on my TV with the Bell remote, the preview channel comes on. I then have to use my TV remote to select “settings “ and go to input to select HDMI in order to access the tv channels. Is this the only way to do this? I’m at a loss as to how to get to the TV without using the TV remote. Any help would be appreciated

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum.

This would normally be a setting option that you need to change in your TV configuration menu. Depending on the make. & model of your TV, if you are connecting more than one device to your HDMI inputs, it will normally stay on the input that you last accessed on your TV. You should also check that your remote is programmed to the correct manufacturer’s model for your TV. Check your TV settings.

Most TV  manufacturers today have multiple codes for the varying models that they distribute. E.g. Samsung, etc. Verify you are using the correct code for your TV,

If your using a Smart TV  it would normally have a connection manager that allows you to follow onscreen instructions for device set up.

Pkease have a look at your support & help documents for your TV model.

If I understand what you mean by "preview channel" - this is something coming from your smart TV?

I had a similar issue when I had the Bell VIP7802 on HDMI1 and an AppleTV 4K on HDMI2 connected to the TV. If I watched the AppleTV, then turned it all off, when the Bell remote was later turned on, it would power up the TV, but not switch the input to HDMI1; it stayed on HDMI2, and I had to use the TV's remote to switch the input.  After some research, it seems to me that if your TV is controlled by the Bell box using infrared, it can only power up the TV and control the volume, it will not automatically switch the input. However, if your TV has the HDMI-CEC feature, in addition to powering-up, it will also switch the input to whatever device remote you're using. The signal to power-up and also switch input is passed through the HDMI cable. Even when "off" the TV is listening for this signal on its HDMI inputs.

HDMI-CEC has been around for a while, many TVs have it, but you may need to enable it in the TV setup menu. To complicate matters, the TV manufacturers brand it with their own name, like "Anynet" on Samsung TVs. If your TV doesn't have HDMI-CEC, then you're stuck having to manually switch the TV's input every time you watch a different input.
