Purchasing a 4K VIP5662W PVR receiver from someone else to use with my Fibe TV service

Hi All,

I have a Bell branded 4k Android-powered streaming box that come standard with Bell Fibe TV service (not the streamer the 4k box).

Question is: can I purchase a 4k VIP5662W PVR Receiver from someone else and hook it up to my Fibe TV service.

Problem is the Fibe TV App doesn't seem to support 4K nor can it play 4K recordings. (running on NVIDIA shield). Bell Tech rep said the 4K PVR is only compatible with Satellite but when I previously had Bell Fibe TV service, I had a 4K PVR. (not sure of the model but it had a spinning hard drive in the unit)

Any suggestions insight from the community on this?

Hi there @kraken23, thanks for your post and welcome to the Bell Community.
@AlexS is correct. The Fibe TV Box (7802) can not coexist with other Fibe TV receiver models.

Good Day.

Thank you for your reply.

The VIP2502 set top box if purchased outright from Bell, can be used in concert with the VIP5662w. It is not compatible with the VIP7802 Cloud PVR.

Bell applies a rental fee for 60 continuous rental months. After which, the rental fee is waived. Bell continues to maintain ownership of the receiver.

Take care.

The reps were very clear to me that once you switch to the cloud dvr, you cannot switch back, unless you cancel the current bundle and order the tv plan separately.

But the bundle with the latest box is pretty cheap though and there aren’t many major problems for some users.

Thanks @BellPatricia & @AlexS

Followup questions:

Do you know if the Bell Streamer 1) supports 4K streaming/recording playback and 2) can I pair it with a Bell remote (the one with numbers) or would I have to use the remote that comes with the streamer box?

1. 4K only exists in the setting options at the moment. You have to get the dvr plan to play non-4K recordings within 60 days on Streamers or selected programs within 30h of end time but possibly without either pause or rewind.

2. I can pair Streamers with one of my Bluetooth Slim which was paired with my old 5662 box before, but I cannot control my Streamers with neither the replacement Bluetooth remote nor any Voice Remote.

I am 4 day old Bell Internet/fibe TV customer sold a package with one set top box. I was shocked to find out there are no Bell Apps for my Samsung nor LG smart tvs. Now I have to figure how to add my second TV. A friend gave me a VIP2502 wireless set top box which has successfully paired with my gigahub but it wants an order #. Rogers allows user owned set top boxs & PVRs with no additional charge for extra tvs. What can I expect from Bell ? I am afraid to talk to Bell Customer Service 😞

Good Day.

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum.

This is a peer-to-peer website. As such, we do not have access to your account & equipment records. Bell also allows for additional user owned compatible boxes & devices to be connected to Fibe TV.

Before we can answer your question, you will however need to provide us with further information:

  1. Which Fibe service do you subscribe to? Fibe TV or Fibe TV App?
  2. Which Bell receiver do you currently have? VIP7802 Cloud PVR set top box or VIP5662w?

If the VIP2502 set top box was purchased outright from Bell, then yes, you may be able to activate it if you have a VIP5662w PVR as your main receiver.

I will assume that you & your friend have proof of purchase. In order to activate this receiver, you will need to contact Bell Customer Service Fibe TV to confirm that this receiver is in fact compatible with your Fibe TV service & is not a rental that was reported as non-equipment return.

Although the Bell Fibe TV app is not available on a Samsung TV, there are a number of devices that can be purchased & plugged in to a spare HDMI port that will allow you to access the Bell Fibe TV app on a Samsung TV. E.g. Amazon Fire Stick, Bell Streamer, Apple TV, Chromecast, etc.

Please have a look at the following web link:

What is Fibe TV app and how do I use it?

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Take care.

Thanks for reply. I believe I have Fibe TV and a VIP7802 Cloud PVR set top box. I will contact Bell re compatibility and ownership. I don't know how Bell works hardware but with Rogers it was after 2 years you own it. I sure wish my door to door bell salesman had offered a 2 tv setup.
