VIP5662 does not retain 4K resolution settings

All channels on my new Samsung TV look way better when Bell's 4k PVR resolution is set to 4K, every time you turn the TV off and back on the PVR resolution drops to 1080 which forces me to manually adjust back to 4K (select Menu , Settings, Resolution and select 4K) , this is quite annoying as it has to be done every time you turn the TV on, I called Bell, they sent a technician who swapped the PVR but the problems continues , called Bell again to be told that the boxes are programmed to default to 1080 resolution , is there an solution and/or logical explanation for this, the boxes should retain the resolution they are set at , this is not right ?

I am in complete agreement with everyone. I have the upgraded HDMI Cables, absolutely no HELP from Bell but we all just keep paying our bill. Rogers is offering great deals right now and they also let me know that they are aware of ALL the issues that Bell is having now and are capitalizing on this BELL poor service opportunity.

Not to have anyone at all reply from BELL to this many comments is not only disgusting in this media driven world it is pathetic!!

JUST switch, I am!

After 3 days of my stb staying locked at 4K it slipped back to 1080p and remained there for about 10 days. I can live with 1080p but for the last few days when everything is powered up in the morning it’s at 480p! Is Bell monitoring this thread? It looks like they have washed their hands of the whole situation! I’m 100% convinced it’s the stb and not the TV. If I unplug the stb and plug it back in and let it power up it will select 1080p. Come on Bell!

It’s mostly the same story for everyone in this discussion. My STB did originally default to 480, but now it appears to default to 1080p. I don’t think we can expect Bell Tech Support to actually lower themselves to read a public forum, but we are hoping that at least, the message would be passed on.

I think what I’m going to do is plug the stb into a smart plug. That way when I’m not around the rest of the family can do a “Hey google STB off/on” or some garbage like that😂😂

If Bell support is not able to resolve the issue, they should at least offer a free or discounted upgrade.

Agree but they won’t!! And to what??

I tried to upgrade to the android system but the rental charges (for exact same channels) were too high. They refused to discount anything!!

in hindsight, 2 different technicians have told me it’s a bad system to upgrade to, so I’ve actually downgraded to the non-4K PVR. Old technology, but seems to be stable.

I also have the non 4K vip2502, on another tv, and no issues. I guess that they will just ignore us until go away, or upgrade so they can make more money. I have been seriously thinking of going with Videotron for a while now. Maybe this will be the push I need. Their customer service is far superior.

It occasionally stays at 4k.  Mostly every time it starts at 1080... and occasionally it reverts to SD.  I have given up on getting this fixed.  Right now part of turning on the box is checking the resolution and changing it.  Bell really should offer a solution... either fix the existing receivers or find a receiver that works and offer it to those of us who are having this issue.  The receiver they sent me looks like a previously used one... I wonder if the latest version of this receiver would have the same issue?   Either way they need to fix it... it's going to lead to customers switching to competitors, even if it means internet that isn't quite as good as their fibre internet.

I had been looking for a solution for this problem for several months too!
Someone on the forum in french came up with the idea of using a splitter (35$).
After a week, I can confirm that it seems to work! Here is the model I used: AVIDGRAM Commutateur HDMI 4K 60 Hz

If your household switches plans every year or whenever the cheapest offer is available, it’s definitely cheaper than sticking with the current plan any longer. The new sys is already available for nearly a year, and I find it extremely easy to knockdown the bill. Since I ordered it last Nov., so far I have paid not even $10 in total for ALL of my BUNDLE bills, I.g. 1.5gbps + starter + alt5 and an extra time-shift pack I ordered separately from the initial lineup.

I surrendered and called in to have them move me over to the VIP7802W and its a MASSIVE improvement in video and sound quality. I have yet to run into issues as some have reported but I have my setup going through Ethernet which might help.

Were there any extra charges for that? My bill is astronomical as it is but after this morning’s 480p fiasco I might change over. What was the setup like?

I was paying $5 for the old 4K PVR ($20-15 Credit=$5) now I am paying $18 so I went up $13 a month.

It is ridiculous but loyalty said I had tapped out my credits on the account (I pay $50 for 3 Gigabit)

At least there is a massive improvement with Dolby Digital Plus and proper 4K compared to the old box, even non 4K channels look sharper.

I looked at a thread on the 7802 and it seems there are quite a few issues with it as well.

Yeah I am aware of those issues, I weighed the cons and pros and figured the 7802 will get updated while the 5662 is a legacy product that all IPTV providers using it have this specific big with including those with TELUS Optik TV and it will not get any further updates.

I also have a Dolby Atmos setup here that the old box wasn’t able to deliver that audio codec to so this new box does that too so for me I rather deal with the issues that will be fixed than an issue that’s there for good.
