We have been rural Bell customers for 12+ years now with Bell Satellite TV. I don't know if we own our recievers or not, but we aren't being charged any rental fee. Or we eligible for any free receiver upgrades? It seems like there are newer recievers out there than what we have and wondering what we have to do to get one or two?

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum.
This is a community forum, a peer-to-peer website. As such we do not have access to your account and equipment records. It is somewhat difficult to answer your question in terms of satellite receiver ownership. Bell maintains equipment ownership and rental records for all receivers on an account.
Bell does not normally provide free upgrades satellite receivers. Bell has sold new & refurbished receivers previously.
Bell charges a monthly rentaI fee for each tv receiver a customer wishes to obtain as part of their satellite service. This rental fee will drop off of your bill if you meet the following criteria:
- If you rent your receiver without default for 60 consecutive months, you may continue to use it at no charge for as long as you are a Bell TV customer. The receiver remains Bell’s property. You may terminate your rental at any time provided you return the receiver (early termination fees on programming may apply). Receivers may be new or refurbished at Bell’s choice.
- You should be able to see where you are at in terms of the number of months you have rented in the 60 continuous months. After the 60 months, the rental charge for that specific piece of equipment will be automatically removed from your bill.
There are definitely newer models of satellite receivers offered by Bell that are available for purchase or on a month to month rental. I have included a web link to the Bell Satellite receiver equipment online site.
https://www.bell.ca/Bell_TV/HD-Receivers-and-HD-PVR
If you are an existing customer, you can install additional receivers that you have purchased yourself. HD PVR must be installed professionally due to their complexity.
If you are renting your receivers, from Bell, a professional install is always required.
To best answer any further equipment questions you might have, I would suggest that you review your Satellite TV account details on MyBell and then contact Bell Satellite TV Customer Service. They will be able to fully answer any questions you might have in terms of your existing equipment and changes that you wish to consider.
Please call Bell Customer Service Satellite TV at: 1 888 759-3474
Take care.

I may have been an exception but Bell gave/offered me a free upgrade for 2 of my Bell satellite receivers when they stopped supporting it (3100). I had called them up to tell them that I was getting random messages on my 3100 receivers and they informed me that the 3100 were being phased out and my random messages/errors could be related. Even though I bought both of them brand new and from Bell store when I initially signed up for satellite service over ~15 or ~20 years ago or so (never paid a rental fee on them), Bell told me that I had to return them to Bell which I found strange since I paid for them but since I wasn't being charged for the replacement receivers and the 3100 were going to be useless, I saw no real point in arguing that I paid for them originally (nor did I keep proof from ~20 years ago). They gave me two 6500 to replace my 3100. These 6500 belong to Bell from my understanding so from owning and paying full price for two 3100 Bell satellite receivers, I "lost" ownership of two receivers.
I also have a 6131 which I own (never paid a rental fee for it) and Bell technician told me that it was defective and no longer under warranty. I asked him what I'm supposed to do with it and he told me to drop it off at the city eco-center. Not sure if I should do this given that I've read on the forum and based on my experience with the 3100s that I own that Bell might want it for whatever reason.

The service representative will be able to advise you accordingly & if the receiver is still attached to your Satellite TV service, will be able to remove the receiver from your MyBell account.

Thanks. I'll keep it linked to my profile for the time being since it doesn't bother me or restrict my satellite television viewing by having a receiver which is no longer functioning still on my Bell TV services.
