Just picked up a new tv after my ancient plasma finally died.
For some reason having my rec set to dolby or dolby pcm causes an irritating tone when skipping forward/backward on recorded programs or live programming being skipped that I never experienced before. It goes away when set to PCM but obviously the sound quality is much poorer.
Have you experienced this...and if so...what's the deal? I assume it has something to do with newer technology on the tv and older tech on the 9241

Good Day & Welcome
Thank you for posting your question.
The 9241 receiver is an older model satellite receiver. Poor recorded playback quality can indicate a dying hard drive.
Have you tried to test and compare a live broadcast versus a recorded broadcast? If live TV sounds perfect but recordings, go back / rewind, etc. stutters or sounds robotic, the hard drive likely has bad sectors.
You can start off by doing a hard reset. This is the quickest way to clear cache, correct temporary firmware stutters, and resolve system hangs.
- Unplug the 9241 satellite receiver directly from the electrical outlet.
- Wait 2 to 3 minutes then plug the receiver back in. (This may take a few minutes).
You can try replacing the HDMI cable, making sure the correct HDMI port on your set is used. If possible, swap out the HDMI cable with a new one to ensure the cable isn't causing digital sound artifacts.
Some TVs struggle to decode older bitstream formats accurately. Incorrectly mapped audio channels inside the receiver's menu can degrade sound quality. On your Bell Satellite remote, Select > Menu. Scroll down to: System Setup > Installation > Audio. Ensure the audio output is set to standard Stereo or PCM rather than Dolby Digital.
If these issues persist, you should contact Bell Satellite TV Tech support. The service representative will be in a better position to discuss the next steps to take with you.

Take care.

"Have you tried to test and compare a live broadcast versus a recorded broadcast?"
Yes...and indicated so in my post.
There are no noises during rewinds or ff...only when skipping ahead 30sec or back 10sec
"Ensure the audio output is set to standard Stereo or PCM rather than Dolby Digital"
As I indicated in my post...switching to PCM is what I did. There is no "standard stereo" setting....and the "audio" setting is found in "System Setup" / "Dolby Digital"
Dolby/PCM
Dolby digital only
PCM only
PCM only is the only option that removes the annoying tone but the quality is obviously worse.
