One of my satellite receivers became defective and this has been confirmed by a Bell technician who visited.
Since the satellite receiver is no longer under warranty, I was told that nothing can be done about it by Bell.
My question is...
I was checking out Bell's satellite television page and looking at the possibility of renting a satellite receiver.
I see they have something called Whole Home PVR ($17/month) and then they have the 7500 ($10/month). Can the 7500 be used "standalone" if someone doesn't care about PVR or recording functionality? All I'm interested in a standard receiver which plugs into the satellite cable and gets a single channel that I want to watch and I'm subscribed to at a specific time.
While I can "live" with paying $10/month for a receiver rental, I don't see myself paying $27/month ($17+10) for a rental when I only care about watching live television and don't care about PVR, pausing, etc. I also have no plans on getting additional Bell services which will reduce the rental of the Whole Home PVR from $17/month to $0/month.
Does Bell rent any "standalone" satellite receivers?
At $27/month, I could just get a FireTV stick and install the FibeTV app on it and use that on my television set. The only negative thing about this is that I don't get the live US stations that I'm subscribed to (ABC, CBS, & NBC) which because of rules, are only available on actual receivers.

Good Day & Welcome.
Thank you for posting your question.
You cannot use a Bell 7500 Whole Home Receiver as a standalone, independent device without a corresponding PVR (9500) on your account.
The 7500 is specifically designed as a client receiver, often referred to as a "dumb" box, that relies on a main PVR unit (typically the 9500) to function. It acts as an extension to access recordings from that main PVR rather than operating on its own.
Bell does rent satellite receivers. Bell also sells refurbished satellite receivers. These are the available models through Bell:
- Whole Home PVR 9500 & 7500 Whole Home receiver.
- Satellite TV Receivers | Bell Canada
You can purchase a second-hand receiver and add it to your account. If you decide to go this route, please ensure to get the receiver number before purchasing and check with Bell's support team to make sure it can be added. If a receiver is marked as a rental equipment or stolen, it will not be able to be activated on your profile.
Have you checked online to see if any other authorized dealers, retailers, etc. might carry an older refurbished model that is for sale? E.g. 6400HD, etc.
Take care.

Good Day & Welcome.
Thank you for your reply.
That is correct. The Bell 9500 & 7500 are the only receivers available through Bell.
As I mentioned previously, your only other option would be to search out a second-hand refurbished receiver from another source online or through an authorized dealer, retailer, etc.
Take care.

So I guess Bell doesn't rent any standalone satellite receivers similar in functionality to what I've had in the past which is a basic receiver that accepts the satellite cable input and displays a single subscribed channel on the television set (similar to what I've had in the past with the 2700, 3100, 6500, 6131, etc.) since your post basically outlines the two same items I referenced in my original post (Whole Home PVR and 7500) which I got from the same website that you referenced and the 7500 can't be used alone... and it isn't worth me paying $27 ($17+$10) for two units just getting "basic" viewing without PVR functionality and I have no plans on getting additional Bell services.
