Hello all!!
I have been a happy Bell internet customer for a while now (15+ years). I just upgraded to the 3GB plan and the tech just came and installed the modem. My desktop computer has a build in 2.5GB NIC, and I have a CAT6 cable from the 10GB port on the modem, and plugged directly into my 2.5GB card. I am getting unexpectedly low download rates. Ookla says my download is 140.07 Mb/s and upload is 881.22.14 Mb/s.

When I plug into one of the 1G ports I get better results. When I plug my laptop into the 10GB port (it only has a 1G NIC) I get similar results as my desktop.
I have firmware version 1.16.5
I have tried removing the NIC from the device manager & updating the drivers.
While the tech was here we were not able to get it working. The really weird thing is he even went and got another modem from his truck and it had the same result. I have tested sppeds to the modem in the modem console page and the modem is getting 3GB+ speeds.
Are there any known problems with these ports? is there something I can do to fix this?
TIA
David

I had a generic ethernet card installed which didn't even show 2.5 gbs as an option so went back to the store and they upgraded to a Realtek where I was able to to select 2.5 gbs and full duplex. Speed has not changed; download and upload are both around 950 mbs. I also selected 2.5 gbs in the modem settings.

Ok, now we're getting somewhere. I have a Dell computer with a Killer E2600 Ethernet controller in addition to the Realtek. When I disable the Killer, I'm offline; when I disable the Realtek, I can still browse. So, how to make the Realtek the default controller.

Good Day.
Thank you for your question.
I am not sure you can do so. I am familiar with Dell products. Is this a desktop or laptop? What is the make and model of your Dell?
Have you contacted Dell support? A Dell support representative is in a better position to further answer your question.

As I said, some 2.5 Gb cards do not play well with the Giga Hub. You are better to obtain a 10 Gb card from a reliable manufacturer (Asus 10 Gb cards, which are made by Marvell, work well).

The Killer E2600 appears to be an intel 1 Gb gaming card. It comes with it's own driver and suite of software. You have downloaded and installed that? What operating system are you using, as well?

Adaptors under Windows have something called a metric value. This value determines the order of use when you have multiple network adaptors.
The lower the metric number means higher priority, and a higher number indicates lower priority. (Basically backwards to what you would assume).
You can manually assign a metric value to a network adaptor, and that in turn will allow you to determine the order of use of your network adaptors when establishing a network connection.
For details on how to change this value, see here.
Note: this is a metric value set per adaptor per network protocol and normally Windows manages this automatically. If you are using V4 and V6 TCP/IP, you need to set the value manually for both per adaptor.
