I work from home and my work laptop has vpn that I believe is cause lower than acceptable speed, how to fix?

I have gigabit Fibe 4000 and pay for up to 1.5 gbps total download. But my requirements as per my employer is 20Mbps download/5 Mbps upload speed on work laptop with the required VPN is 14.50 Mbps download speed. I have Ethernet connection direct to laptop which was recommended to see if it helps but to no avail. HELP!!

Thank you for your concern. One of the unspoken realities of some VPN's is that because of the way they work in anonymizing your connection, they induce lag and slowdown. That may be what you may be seeing. This is a VPN issue and not Bell. There may be other issues. Your data may have to travel further (yes, distance matters), the VPN server is overloaded, or your encryption protocol in the VPN requires too much processing power from your computer. Have you run a modem speed test as outlined here? Are other employees who also have Bell internet service experiencing the same thing? Is your employer raising a concern? Have you taken the matter up with your employer's IT department?

With a VPN you are limited to the speed the VPN service offers. Looks like in your case that is 20/5 Mbps.

Even if your home connection has a 1.5 Gbps download speed, you would still be limited to 20 Mbps as 20 Mbps is the maximum download speed the VPN offers based on your description.

Thank you for your input. I am waiting to have my evaluation mtg with my employer and I’m worried that they won’t see it he possibility that it’s a vpn issue and still force me into office.  Thank you again
