Issues with 5 gigabit card

I recently upgraded to a BrosTrend 5Gb PCIe Network Card and a 3-gigabit internet plan. However, I'm encountering an issue where my computer fails to connect to the internet when the network card's speed & duplex setting is on 5 Gbps Full Duplex. It works fine on 2.5 Gbps Full Duplex. I've ensured the network card has the latest drivers installed, and it's connected using a CAT 7 cable to a 10-gigabit port on my Gigahub. Is there a possible fix for this?

One year and a half later and the issue is still there. I've got a brand new 5 Gbps card and a CAT 8 cable that can't negociate at 5 Gbps with Bell GigaHub. Auto-negociation is failling, I had to manually put the slower 2.5 Gbps Full-Duplex mode to get it to "work".

It's likely a limitation of the chipset used. I highly doubt it's a firmware resolvable issue.

Some chipsets only support 1 or 10 Gbps, some support 1, 2.5, 5, 10 etc...

There’s nothing you can do about this. We’ve been going around in circles with Bell for quite some time. the only success I ever had was using a 10 GB port and I was able to get my fault three gig fibre speed. the only success I ever had was using a 10 GB port and I was able to get my full  three gig fibre speed.

other than that, like you I’m stuck at 2.5 so there’s no point in upgrading the service.

That is correct. If you have the 3 or 8 Gb profile, use the 10 Gb port on the Giga hub. There are known issues with 5 Gb and 2.4 Gb motherboard network ports and cards and the Giga Hub. This is a limitation of the card's firmware. I have had success with a 10 Gb network card. They are more expensive than a 1 Gb card, but have come down significantly in price, (now well under $100) in the last year. Always check the actual firmware brand. Intel, Marvell and Realtek are common firmware brands.

I just received a new Giga Hub 2.0 modem and got the BrosTrend 5Gb PCIe Network Card to work at 5Gbps. When I set the 10G port to 5Gbps it did not work.  I set it back to auto on both speed and duplex and then set the card to 5Gbps through device manager and all is OK!  Through a speed test I get 3168 Mbps download and 3183 Mbps upload and no connection issues so far.  Keep my fingers crossed. Finally Bell seems to have solved this issue with the modem and firmware.  I'm using Cat7 cable. It's a surprise and a welcome relief that they are listening to their customers.  

In addition, I also notice that this modem works better with wifi because the signal from it is just as strong in areas of the house where a wifi extender supplied it, therefore I will not need it anymore.

Your new Giga Hub 2.0 modem has resolved this issue.  I got my Brostrend 5Gbps card to work when setting the speed/duplex to 5Gbps through device manager.  The 10 g port on the modem has to be left at auto though.  It will not work with the card if set to 5Gbps.  Thanks very much for resolving this.

Revision to the above:  I am still using my wifi extender as the signal from the new modem fluctuates from good to fair.  From the TP Link re550 extender it is stable at good (3 bars).  Oh well, you can't have everything.
