Upgrade the 4K HDPVR to the Cloud One

Hey guys, I’m planning to switch to the latest TV plan this Black Friday or Cyber Monday and have some questions. If u guys have other questions, feel free to post under my thread. Just in case someone else on the forum can answer!

1.I wonder if Bell is able to transfer recordings to the new plan.

2. Is EVERYTHING the same except the storage location, the 1 yr limit, max live feeds simultaneously, potential to use features under ATSC 3.0/nextgen tv, installation of other apps and the additional voice control feature? For ex, can I still able to fast backward from the beginning of the next program and land on the previous one when both programs r broadcasted within 30 hrs and allow the Restart feature? Does Bell still automatically record one or two extra min at the end of the timer and they are still taking up the 320h storage? The legacy plan only have 289 hr of de-facto storage.

3. Any additional features added? For ex, buy extra storage, better pic quality

4. Any hiccup so far besides the issues with hdmi, wifi pods, crashes, lack of options in settings for Dolby Vision logo and turn-off/sleep after X min/hr mentioned on this forum and/or Reddit? Recently someone said the Netflix app on the “Bell Fibe Box” does not support subtitle appearance setting changes. Can someone please confirm if this is the new box? I never subscribe Netflix, but I’m curious if this rule applies to other apps too, such as Crave and Disney+.

5. I have a Bell Streamer which doesn’t allow me to install lots of apps. Not only Apple TV+ but even like CP24, CTV, TSN and etc under Bell’s ownership. Is the situation still the same under the 7802 box?

6. Can we cast from mobile devices to the box exactly like to other Apple and Android tv boxes? The dvr with physical storage always override the playback allowance on BOTH the box and the mobile device.

7. My dvr sometimes would breakdown in the middle of a live recording, which would resulted in there separate segments with the middle one missing. Any improvement?

8. I have two slim remotes, three Streamer remotes and one Samsung remote. Can I pair them with the new box? Apple TV allows this. If not, any buy-back program? Three of the bell remotes r brand new.

Hey there @AlexS, thanks very much for your post, and for all of the great questions 🙂

We'll try to touch on as many points as we can.

Recordings cannot be transferred to the new receiver. However, once activated they will be stored on the Cloud PVR so theoretically if you needed to exchange equipment for another Fibe TV box in the future you should still have access to saved recordings.

The fast forward/rewind and Restart feature are still available on the Fibe TV Box. The receiver should record an extra few minutes after the recorded program ends. You will be able to record up to 10 programs simultaneously, and keep recordings for 365 days to a maximum of 320 hours of recordings.

The new Fibe TV box offers the same Fibe TV experience with additional functionalities like:

  • Voice Remote powered by Google Assistant
  • Universal Search for content
  • Fibe TV Cloud PVR
  • Google Play Store access

Since the Fibe TV Box comes with Google Play installed, you will have access thousands of apps within the Google Play store, including video, music, and gaming.

The new Fibe TV Box does support casting.

You will never experience an issue with the recording breaking down resulting in separate segments as the recordings are cloud based

The Fibe TV Box comes with one Voice Remote, but you cannot pair the Slim remote/Bell Streamer remote.

We look forward to hearing about your experience with using the new Fibe TV Box.

Have a great day.

Is there a plan to add the casting feature? I see a Reddit thread titled “arris vip7802 and fibe app - pair receiver” showing the iOS app still showing “fibetv” as detected. https://www.reddit.com/r/bell/comments/x2p1s4/arris_vip7802_and_fibe_app_pair_receiver/

Hey @AlexS. We double checked and the new Fibe TV Box does support casting.

Looks like my initial question ab the casting is valid again.

I was wondering if you can fast-forward through commercials like I can on my current physical PVR box. Also, can you start playback of content before it has finished recording? Thanks.

1. Yes, it can do all the skipping just as what’s available on the 5662.

2. Of course, but probably not if you are not on your home wifi. When I had the old box, once I tried to access the recordings via LTE network, the app told me they will be available in X min after they are finished.

Thank you Alex. I ask these questions because I have been reading that some cloud PVR services do not allow this. The new technology gives providers the ability to do this. It is no secret how important advertising is as a revenue stream.

Since the post is bumped up to the front page again, I’m gonna update the bugs I have encountered and also some of the questions I had:

2. The extra 2 min recordings still exist. Presumably they will still take storage within the 320 hr allowance.

4. I haven’t encountered any hdmi problems  yet, but I only have used the old Bell cable issued by the technician who installed my 5662 more than 1 yr ago. I don’t have any wifi pod, but some posts on the official forum and Reddit mention that it cannot connect to the Internet via pods. I can find options to stop the device from sleeping. All other known problems when I first posted are still here, EXCEPT the Netflix stuff cause I don’t have access. Other people are still talking abt the Dolby Vision problem recently.

5. For CTV, I meant CTV News. Later the TSN is available on Streamer, not on 7802 though, but all other apps’ status remain the same.

6. Not exactly since no matter what you cast, there are always blue screens at the beginning of the casting, and the parallel lines in the middle of the screen won’t disappear for at least a period that is long enough for a customer to give up. Sometimes the lines would disappear a short while after the blue screen goes away, but don’t be happy too early, they would come back.

7. Haven’t encountered any yet since the 7th. I still remember the disappointment 1 yr ago when I got a breakdown in the middle of the Toronto Santa parade and I had to resort to CTV2 which has larger TV bugs.

8. I mistaken my Bluetooth Remote as Slim in the initial post. Only the Bluetooth slim remotes I have partially work on the new box, but it’s a bit slower, the number buttons sometimes aren’t responsive and the menus option doesn’t work. Sometimes you have to adjust the remote to make it work. My oldest slim can pair under Bluetooth while my backup can’t, though all the buttons which have retained utility still work.

HOWEVER, the fast forward and backward still work the same way as they were on the old box, both in the guide and recording, so I can have some shortcuts than the new remote since I’m fast when switching between remotes. None of Bell remotes can pair with my Streamer and Apple box.

9. Additional problems:

Known Google Play Store Crash. It’s still here although an employee said Bell knows on the forum months ago, and there was an update released on the 8th.

Fast Backward previews don’t match with the progress bar on some channels’ Restart function, like CNN.

The new remote might switch to controlling the sound bar of the box instead of the TV. And on the day of my additional tech visit bc the first one who appeared on my installation wasted 30 min doing nothing that resulted in no time for confirming bugs, the box would show 101 error after playing any channel for maybe merely 15s. Although the new tech didn’t know the meaning, he reset my box and these two hiccups were fixed.

10. Design Problem:

No remaining storage on the Fibe TV app. Gotta do the math yourself during a trip or anything that prevents you from accessing the dvr in person.

Different Fast Forward and Rewind: Now you have to long-press for both functions. If you wanna hide the progress bar in order the read anything at the bottom of the screen during Restart, like news programs, you have to long-press again, which means 5-7 min’s clips have passed, even if you don’t release your finger too early. But I have mentioned a workaround if you have access to a legacy remote.

The Christmas App on the legacy dvr isn’t available. Presumably TSN xtra too, but it stopped working at the end of Nov. anyway.

Thoughts on additional tech visit: The native French speaker knew less about the problem than me and he couldn’t issue me any internal updates, neither software nor firmware as someone else on Reddit claimed. He didn’t even know about the confirmed Play Store Crush citing the internal communication issue. The system also blocked him from issuing a replacement on the spot despite having boxes in his vehicle and contacting both co-worker(s) and supervisor. Although he couldn’t fixed anything, I got a full set of brand new accessories after this 2.5h visit. Why not if they’re gonna to landfills anyway after a failed 5-min activation and COP 15 is happening merely around 1.5 km away? However, if you don’t have the spare time, or don’t wanna bother transferring the extra equips, maybe waiting for an update is the best at the moment. The luckiest person should had gotten a deal in the summer when Bell just released new pricing structure and hadn’t rolled out the new dvr. At that time, I could have gotten a starter + ALT 5 (without aggressive negotiation) + 50 Mbps Internet (I could have planned to upgrade to 150 Mbps later through complaints) for $75. All the choices I got for Cyber Monday are only consisted of the half-finished box and unnecessary broadband, and it’s as high as $70 after Visa Card and assuming I’m gonna switch the plan next Nov.

The most recent technician also didn’t click “complete” on his portal, which blocks me from making any changes to the line-up, including swapping ALT channels. He had already shown slacks after the arrival, because after I received a 2nd call from Bell’s sys about his coming, he said: “Oh I forgot to update my status.” Not too much more impressive even if comparing with the first one who sit for 0.5h outside the lobby with 24h security guards without any further action other than making failed calls.

I just record a random Fox News program and switched to LTE again. It says available after 17 min. Presumably 10 min after the end time.

lmao only if no one is sharing subscriptions with those who don’t pay. The price for standalone minimum live tv service without any discount is around $50 per month, and telcos get extra Internet income if customers wanna spend minimum starting from $25 on live TV services.

If I upgrade to the new Cloud PVR service and add Cloud receivers on all my TVs, am I then able to watch the Bell 4K channels (sports and movies) on more than just my one TV that I currently have connected to the older 4K PVR?

Are there any downsides to moving to the Cloud Receivers throughout the house?  For three of my four TVs I have wired ethernet available so I won't have to rely on the Bell hub.  Also, do I need to upgrade from the 3000 Hub to the 4000 Hub to use the Cloud PVRs?

Hey there @bw1961, thanks for reaching out to the Bell Community 🙂

When you upgrade to the Fibe TV Box you will have access to any available/subscribed 4K content on each active Fibe TV Box.

You can continue to use the Home Hub 3000.

Have a nice day,

Right now I can rent/buy 4K stuff on Bell Streamer (the smallest box released publicly in 2020). There’s a 4K quality streaming option in the settings but the 4K channels’ slots explicitly say I need to watch on receivers. I guess 4K content would be more accessible in the future.
I would suggest not to bundle extra tv boxes to your new deal since getting rid of them would ruin your ongoing credits.

Sorry I live in a glass-wall condo. I’ve tried out Ethernet connection due to an unnecessary technician visit but I didn’t notice any problem before I switch back to WiFi after a few days. But there are lots of other small bugs and problems. Some are fixed some are not. Good news is that I have only paid less then $10 after taxes for Bell residential service since the installation arranged on Cyber Monday due to my reports hahaha
