PPPOE not working after a recent firmware update

Hello,

I know this is a grey zone and is not officially supported but like a lot of Bell users i use my own routing equipment and like other users i have found that since my modem rebooted on the latest firmware, pppoe from the router is not working anymore.

There is already a reddit thread discussing the details here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/bell/comments/1u2k2rb/did_bell_start_blocking_pppoe_connections_entirely/

Basically the bug seems to be that "Any packet over certain size would trigger incorrect PPP frame length meaning that the length reported in the header was different from the actual payload size."

Is it possible to know if this is related to some firmware issue and a fix is coming or if it was deliberate change from Bell?

Any info about this would be appreciated since its currently starting to impact more users and we are all on our own so far wasting our time debugging this.

Thanks!

While I support this 8311  project I really don't think we should be discussing this here. After all it's a bell controlled forum and they most likely know who's who. And I am sure all this is against some tos in some way or another. That said I really wish bell would offer pro-consumers like us an option to use a direct sftp+ ONT that is 100% supported by them. Heck i'd even pay for it to get away from their $%^& gateway. (*hint I'd be willing to trial it I know you already offer similar to third party isp's in some cases.) Just remember the pppoe passthru is apparently not a supported feature and they are under no obligation to "Fix it" anytime soon. What should have happened when the issues were reported and continue to be is that firmware roll out should have been stopped, but they have their  heads in the sand ignoring it.

I think this is a perfect place to discuss this, because it is a Bell controlled forum. Bell needs to see that their customers are upset with the issues that Bell themselves caused. You say that PPPoE pass through isn't officially supported, which is true but ADMZ is officially supported and it was broken at the same time.

Someone at Bell broke this, Bell needs to know that they need to fix it.

PPPOE passthrough is a supported feature for Bell for residential services. What is not supported is the equipment past the Home hub, usually a router.

And yes, it is currently not functioning properly and as mentioned earlier in this thread, they are working on a solution and will post updates on a fix here in this thread once there is information on it available.

Wow PPPoE isn’t functioning properly?  I had no idea!  Thank you for your insightful information.

It’s been over a month, it’s not out of the realm of reasonable expectations to want an update.

If you actually read all the posts you would have come across the one that says the modems are by a 3rd party company and they are the ones that do the firmware.  So, NO, someone at Bell did NOT break this and they have alerted the company who is working on a fix.  Yeah it isn't working right now but fixes take time, testing and rollout.  It isn't going to happen overnight.   BTW are you a software or hardware developer?  If not then you have no clue how all this works!

Hi,

Today I can use PPPoE at full speed, not limitted to 450Mbps anymore.

Firmware version is now 3.11.6.3

That is encouraging news!  Will wait till I hear from others that have ubiquity equipment if the PPPOE is resolved.

I'm still on .2 when I just checked.
