Hey there @Amansi9gh ,

Welcome to the community and thanks for your post.

An internal speed of 40 Mbps on a 1 Gbps connection usually points to hardware limitations, local interference, or network congestions rather than a completely broken line. Here is a breakdown of why this can happen and how you can potentially fix it.

Potential Causes
  • Device Limitations: Older phones lack the network chips required to process gigabit speeds.
  • Physical Obstructions: Thick concrete walls, metal appliances, mirrors, heavy foliage, etc. can severely degrade wireless signals.
  • Network Congestion: Too many devices connected to nearby towers can affect signal strength.
  • Location: If using mobile data, indoor coverage or tower distance might drop you to basic LTE bands.

Troubleshooting Steps

  • Toggle Airplane Mode: Turn airplane mode on for 10 seconds, then turn it off. This forces your phone to disconnect from a distant cell tower and reconnect to the closest, strongest Bell 5G+ tower.
  • Check Your Data Cap: Log into your MyBell account to ensure you haven't exceeded your plan's high-speed data allowance.
  • Verify 5G Standalone (SA) Settings: Go to your phone's cellular network settings. Ensure your voice and data network mode is set to 5G On or 5G Auto rather than "LTE Only."
  • Test Outdoors: Step outside away from concrete, brick, or energy-efficient glass windows. If your speed jumps back up to hundreds of Megabits, your building materials are blocking the high-frequency 5G+ spectrum.
  • Reset Network Settings: Go to your phone's general settings and select "Reset Network Settings." This wipes saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth connections, but completely refreshes your carrier profile.
  • Update Your Device Software: Ensure your iOS or Android operating system is fully updated. Carrier profile updates that optimize 5G+ performance are often bundled into these system updates.
  • Inspect Your SIM Card: If you are using an older physical SIM card from a previous LTE phone, it might not be provisioned for 5G+. Consider upgrading to a 5G-ready SIM or switching to an eSIM.

Give those a try and keep the community updated with the results.

You’re definitely not the only one. My internet with Bell sat above 300 Mb/s for five years, and then suddenly dropped to under 100 Mb/s. It’s hard to understand what’s going on with Bell’s service lately.

Good Day & Welcome.

Thank you for posting your concern.

Bell does not offer traditional residential consumer satellite internet. If your speed dropped from 300 Mbps to 100 Mbps it is often caused by a possible hardware bottleneck, network congestion during peak hours, the number of devices connected and in use, or Wi-Fi band interference, etc.

Can you please provide us with some further details? Which Bell Wireless Home Internet plan do you subscribe to? Wireless Home Internet 25 or 50.

Bell's rural or fixed-wireless home internet services rely on cellular/wireless signals and frequently fluctuate during heavy local usage. Wireless Home Internet can be affected by physical obstructions like trees and buildings blocking the line of sight to cell towers, severe weather, distance from the broadcast tower, network congestion from connected household devices, and data caps that reduce speeds after using 600 GB.
