How to get slim remote to control my AV receiver and TV at the same time?

HI All,

I recently switched my services from Rogers to Bell. I used the Rogers remote to turn on my Onkyo receiver and TV (it  was a macro I'm guessing).  Worked well for past 10 years.

Now I have the Bell slim remote.  Installer told me I can control EITHER the Tv or the receiver. This seems odd and antiquated. As it stands in my living room if I press the on button on the Bell slim remote, my receiver and Samsung tv come on. When I press the off button, the Onkyo receiver turns off and the TV stays on, so i have to use the TV remote to turn off the TV alone.

Anyone have a solution for this? Using two remotes seems silly.

Good Day & Welcome

The Bell Slim remote will not control your TV and receiver unless your TV can indirectly power the receiver on & off.

Does your TV & Onyko receiver support IR or HDMI-CEC to control your Fibe TV receiver.

As a starting point, please reprogram the Bell Fibe TV Slim remote to control the TV.

With the expansion of TV models & the vast array of new features that accompany Smart TVs & their peripherals, many of the popular TV manufactures have expanded their list of remote codes that they are using. Samsung is just one of them.

Your remote control may not be paired properly with your Samsung TV. It needs to be programmed with the correct Samsung remote code.

You will need to remove your Fibe TV box from your Samsung TV connected devices & set it up once again. Follow the onscreen instructions. Please note, Samsung has more than one remote control code. When running the setup you will be asked to change channels, etc. This a common setting with Samsung. You must also check the volume + / - & power off /on. If it does not work on the first Samsung code, try the next one. I set my remote up after trying 3 different Samsung codes. The first code did not work. The second code gave me volume & channel changes. I was successful on my third attempt. The third Samsung code gave me everything.

Does your Samsung Smart TV have an External Device Manager? If so, you will also need to go to Settings, turn  Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC). Plug your Bell Fibe TV receiver into this port on your TV. Plug your Onkyo receiver into an HDMI port on you TV. Go go to settings on your Samsung TV > Sound. Select > Sound output & change the output source to either HDMI or if your receiver is not equipped for HDMI, then select Reciever (Optical).

Once you made these changes, plug in your equipment & allow the Samsung connection Manager to set up and configure your equipment.

Please refer to your Samsung & Onyko setup & e-Manual for further detailed instructions.
