Router blocking PlayStation 5 from connecting to internet

Has anyone had issues with bell and their router blocking a ps5 from the internet? A warning pops up. One day is will work and an hour later the warning pops up. Tried adjusting settings in ps5 same outcome. It will also randomly drop internet from the TV and cell phone too but not as frequently as the ps5

Hey there @flamingo

Welcome to the Bell community, and thank you for your post 🙂

That would definitely be frustrating, and we are here to help in any way that we can. To start, we'd like to gather a few more details.

Could you clarify what modem you have and share a photo of the warning that pops up? Which settings did you adjust on your PS5? Is it connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet and do your other devices lose connection only while the PS5 is in use or at random times as well? Does the modem flash its lights or show an error screen when the connection drops?

Looking forward to your reply,

Hi Patricia,  we have the new giga hub. Our original giga had an error and we needed to replace it so was sent a new one. The router is in the same place as the last one which is on the floor directly above the ps5. The original giga hub didn't have an issues. He has to adjusts the 5g to 6g to 2.4g every time he uses it. We have contacted bell multiple times and they say the have fixed the issue but it still happens constantly. It is over wifi which it has always been. Modem shows no error. Everything is working when this warning pops up.

Hey @flamingo

Thank you for your reply 🙂

Can you clarify if you are also using a third party router? How far is your PS5 from the modem? Keep in mind that 2.4 GHz provides the longest range with slightly slower speeds. While 5 GHz provides faster speeds but over a shorter range.

If you do experience this issue again we recommend the following:

  • Restart your equipment: Power cycle both your PS5 and your home router/modem by unplugging them both for 30 seconds.
  • When the error appears test your network on another device: Check if your phone or a computer can load webpages on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Switch your connection type and test a direct Ethernet connection to the modem.

Keep us posted and let the community know how everything is going.

Hi @Joshb3
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Community.
Can you share some further information regarding your setup and troubleshooting steps you've tried?

  • Which model modem you have?
  • Do you have a third party router connected and if so, does the issue occur with it removed from your setup?
  • Does the issue only occur on your PS5 or does it happen on any other devices within your home?
  • When the connection error appears, does any error code or message appear on your modem?
  • Is your PS5 connected via Wi-Fi or ethernet and have you tested both connection types?
  • Have you tried rebooting both your PS5 and modem?
  • Have you tried to forget the Wi-Fi connection through your network settings and then attempt to connect again?

Looking forward to hearing back.
